Daniel Smith (born December 9, 1983 in Auckland ) is a former New Zealand ice hockey player who played for the West Auckland Admirals and the Southern Stampede in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League . New Zealand runners-up with both teams.

Career

Daniel Smith began his career as a hockey player in a youth team in his hometown of Auckland . With the founding of the New Zealand Ice Hockey League in 2005 he was accepted into the semi-professional team of the West Auckland Admirals , with whom he was New Zealand runner-up in the same year. After no further success, he moved to the Southern Stampede from Queenstown and was able to achieve his second runner-up title with the team from the South Island in 2010. He then ended his career at the age of just 26.

International

In the junior division, Smith was on the ice for New Zealand at the U18 World Championships in 2000 in Asia-Oceania Division 2 and in 2001 in Asia-Oceania Division 1.

With the men's national team , the striker took part in the World Championships of Division II in 2004 , 2005 , 2006 and 2008 . After relegations in the meantime, he played at the World Championships in Division III in 2007 and 2009 .
