Daniel Wesener
Daniel Wesener (born December 5, 1975 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). From 2011 to 2017 he was state chairman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Berlin ; since 2016 he has been a member of the Berlin House of Representatives .
Life
Wesener grew up in Hamburg. After graduating from the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium and doing community service, he moved to Berlin in 1996 . He studied history and art history at the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the College of William & Mary in the United States and was a scholarship holder of the Evangelisches Studienwerk Villigst . He finished his studies without a degree and worked from 2003 to 2011 for Christian Ströbele, member of the Bundestag, in his constituency in Berlin-Friedrichshain - Kreuzberg - Prenzlauer Berg Ost . Between 2011 and 2017, Wesener was chairman of the Berlin regional association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. He lives with his partner Dirk Behrendt in Berlin-Kreuzberg .
Political
Wesener has been a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen since 2001. In 2006 he moved for the party into the district assembly of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg , in which he represented his parliamentary group together with Antje Kapek as spokesman (chairman) until 2011 .
In March 2011, Wesener was elected chairman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Berlin. After the Berlin election in September 2011, he and his co-chair Bettina Jarasch led the coalition negotiations with the SPD under the leadership of Klaus Wowereit .
When he was re-elected as the Berlin Greens chairman in March 2013, at the first conflict-free party congress of the Berlin Greens, like his colleague, he achieved an unusually good result for a Green party conference with over 95 percent of the vote, which was by far a record. Most recently, Wesener was confirmed in office in March 2015 with 92 percent. He is considered a representative of the left wing of the party within the Greens.
In October 2015, Wesener was nominated together with Bettina Jarasch, Antje Kapek and Ramona Pop at a state party conference as a member of the green top team for the House of Representatives election on September 18, 2016 . He was elected to the House of Representatives from his party's state list. There he is the parliamentary manager of the Green Group.
