Danielle Jane "Dannii" Minogue (born October 20, 1971 in Melbourne , Victoria ) is an Australian - British singer and actress . She is the younger sister of internationally successful singing colleague Kylie Minogue and has sold over seven million records worldwide to date.
family
Minogue is the youngest daughter of Ron and Carol Minogue. Her older siblings are Kylie and Brendan, who works as a cameraman for Australian television . Minogue was married to compatriot and fellow actor Julian McMahon from 1994 to 1995 . After her divorce, she was engaged to the former Canadian Formula 1 driver Jacques Villeneuve for a few years . From 2008 to 2012 she was with the former British rugby pro Kris Smith, with whom she has a son (* 2010).
Career
Started on Australian television
Minogue's career began on Australian television . She played in the series Skyways and The Sullivans , among others . From 1979 she was part of the talent show Young Talent Time . In Australia she became a child star and was the better known of the two Minogue sisters until 1986, but was never able to step out of the shadow of her sister internationally. From 1988 to 1990 she played the role of Emma Jackson in the soap opera Home and Away .
1990–1995: Beginning of her singing career
Minogue started her international singing career in spring 1991 with the single Love and Kisses , which was released in Australia in autumn 1990. The album of the same name contained the singles Success , Jump to the Beat - with rapper Einstein - and Baby Love . The album received a gold award in Great Britain, made it into the top ten and sold over 60,000 copies. In the summer of 1991 she toured South Africa .
In the fall of 1993, the follow-up album Get into You was released , but only the single This Is It reached the UK top ten. The album flopped and was in the top 60 of the UK album charts for just a week. In 1994 she was a presenter on a British morning show. In 1995 she worked on her third album, the release of which was expected for the fall of 1995. It was never released because her record company split from her.
1996–1999: Girl and Unleashed Tour
Despite Minogues' most successful single All I Wanna Do , which was released in August 1997 and to date , her third album Girl was also a commercial flop. In the summer of 1998, she toured the UK on her Unleashed UK tour to promote her album Girl . However, when this was hardly sold, this led to the termination of the record contract with Eternal Records . In January 1999 they released their last single, Everlasting Night , which was originally supposed to be a first look at their fourth studio album.
2001–2004: Comeback with Neon Nights
From then on, Minogue devoted herself to a career as a musical singer and successfully embodied the role of Esmeralda in the musical Notre Dame de Paris in February 2001 at the Dominion Theater in London .
With her sister Kylie's comeback , Minogue's singing career also picked up again in late 2001. Together with the trance project Riva and the title Who Do You Love Now? , which was able to place itself not only in Australia and Great Britain, but also in the German charts , she had another hit.
This was followed in the spring of 2003 by the album Neon Nights , which was awarded gold in Great Britain, and further single releases such as Put the Needle on It , I Begin to Wonder and Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling , each of which made it into the British top ten. Despite this success, her record deal with London Records was dissolved.
2004-2006: The Hits And Beyond
With a new record deal with Around the World Records , Minogue released the single You Won't Forget About Me in 2004 , which made it to number 7 on the British charts. In October 2005 the single Perfection , a collaboration with the Soul Seekerz , was only able to position itself at number 11 in the British charts.
In June 2006, Minogue released The Hits and Beyond, a best-of album with some new songs and all of the old hits. As part of this best-of album, which only sold moderately and fell out of the Top 100 at number 17 after a week, a third single called So Under Pressure was released , but it no longer reached the British Top Ten.
2007–2010: Club disco and return to television
In May 2007, Minogue returned to the UK Top 40 with the Sister Sledge Cover He's the Greatest Dancer . Her fifth studio album, Club Disco , was released in November 2007 and was only available digitally and from 2008 on on CD. In December 2007, their second release from Club Disco Touch Me Like That appeared , which was only represented in the top 50 of the British charts. Also released that month was the album Unleashed , which included unreleased material from her time with London Records .
In 2008 Minogue appeared more and more on Australian and British television as a juror on various casting shows. In 2009 the albums The Early Years and The 1995 Sessions were released , both of which contained unreleased material from Minogue from the 1990s. The 1995 Sessions was their third planned studio album, which was only released 14 years later. In 2010, her biography, My Story , was published, which she wrote during her pregnancy.
2012–2014: The X Factor and The Very Best Of
Minogue was a jury member for Australia's Got Talent from 2007 to 2012 and was on the jury of the UK talent show The X Factor from 2007 to 2010 . From 2013 to 2015 she sat on the jury of the Australian edition of The X Factor .
In the course of her start as a juror in the Australian The X Factor , Minogue released a best-of album in August 2013 , on which a new song was received. In September 2013, she released a duet with fellow vocalist Ronan Keating . A year later she released a new song for a Disney album.
Since 2015: comeback
After eight years of abstinence from music, Minogue confirmed in February 2015 that she would perform at the Mardi Gras event in March 2015. At the beginning of March 2015, the comeback single #PressPlay was released , to which the British rapper Reece also contributed.
In addition to another appearance in England , the single 100 Degrees - a duet with her sister Kylie - was released in December 2015 .
