Darien is a town in Genesee County , New York state . At the time of the 2010 United States Census , Darien had 3,158 residents. The Town of Darien is located in the southwest of the county, southwest of Batavia .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 123.26 km 2 , of which 122.69 km 2 is land and 0.57 km 2 (or 0.13%) is water. Darien is drained among other things by Murder Creek, a tributary of Tonawanda Creek .
Darien is bordered to the west by Alden in Erie County and to the south by Bennington in Wyoming County .
US Highway 20 (Broadway) runs through the town and intersects New York State Route 77 in the village of Darien Center. The northern terminus of New York State Route 238 (Attica Road) is in Darien. The New York State Route 33 intersects the northwest corner of Darien.
history
When white settlers arrived in western New York, the area was inhabited by the Seneca and referred to by them as O-so-on-to-go , "the place to find the turkey ".
The area was settled by whites around 1803 and was initially known as South Pembroke. The Town of Darien was founded in 1832 and formed from parts of the Town of Pembroke .

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Darien lived in 3061 people. The population density was 24.9 people per km 2 . There were 1125 housing units, an average of 9.1 per km 2 . The Darien population was 99.12% White , 0.10% Black or African American , 0.29% Native American , 0.03% Asian , 0% Pacific Islander , 0% said they were racial , and 0 % , 46% named two or more races. 0.23% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
The residents of Darien distributed to 1064 households out of which 37.9% were living in children under 18 years. 69.5% of households were married, 5.9% had a female head of household without a husband and 19.7% were not families. 15.8% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 6.1% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.20.
