Julius Riyadi Darmaatmadja
Julius Riyadi Cardinal Darmaatmadja SJ (born December 20, 1934 in Muntilan , Indonesia ) is Archbishop Emeritus of Jakarta .
Life
Julius Riyadi Darmaatmadja studied in Mertoyudan , Giri Sonta and Poona . He was ordained priest in 1969 and made perpetual profession in the Jesuit order in 1975. Before and after his ordination he worked as a lecturer and in the care of the next generation of the Order before he became Provincial of the Indonesian Jesuits in 1981 . Two years later appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the Archbishop of Semarang . He was ordained bishop on June 29, 1983 in Semarang by Cardinal Justinus Darmojuwono , Archbishop Emeritus of Semarang, co-consecrators were Francis Xavier Sudartanta Hadisumarta OCD, Bishop of Malang , and Leo Soekoto SJ, Archbishop of Jakarta. In 1984 Darmaatmadja also took over the leadership of the Indonesian military ordinariate and the leadership of the national bishops' conference .
On November 26, 1994, Pope John Paul II accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church Sacro Cuore Immacolato di Maria ai Parioli in the college of cardinals , since 1996 he has been Archbishop of Jakarta. He attended the 2005 conclave . On January 7, 2006, the cardinal passed on the office of Indonesian military bishop to the Archbishop of Semarang, Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo, for reasons of age . On June 28, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. the resignation from the office of Archbishop of Jakarta, put forward by Julius Riyadi Darmaatmadja for reasons of age.
At the conclave in 2013 Julius Darmaatmadja could not attend for health reasons.
