Darrel Brown (born October 11, 1984 in Arima ) is a track and field athlete from Trinidad and Tobago who specializes in the 100-meter run .
Already in his early youth he attracted attention on an international level. At the Athletics Junior World Championships in Santiago de Chile in 2000 , he finished over 100 m and in the 4 x 100 meter relay still fourth place. At the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Debrecen , he then won the gold medal in the 100-meter run. He won other medals at the World Junior Athletics Championships in Kingston in 2002 with first place over 100 m and third place in the 4 x 100 meter relay.
As early as 2001 he started in the adult sector. At the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton , he won the silver medal as the final runner in the 4 x 100 meter relay together with Marc Burns , Ato Boldon and Jacey Harper . Originally, the relay took third place in a national record time of 38.58 s. However, the United States relay was subsequently stripped of the gold medal when its final runner Tim Montgomery was proven doping . Trinidad and Tobago then moved up to second place in the ranking. Brown was only 16 years old at the time of the World Cup finals. In the same year he was also national champion of Trinidad and Tobago over 100 m.
At the World Athletics Championships in Paris in 2003 , he won the silver medal in the 100-meter run in 10.08 s, just a hundredth of a second behind the winner Kim Collins from St. Kitts and Nevis . With a time of 10.01 s in the quarter-finals, Brown also set a junior world record. Shortly before that, he had led his country's 4 x 100 meter relay to second place at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo .
At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 2005 , another silver medal followed in the relay. Together with Kevon Pierre , Marc Burns and Jacey Harper, he set a new national record for Trinidad and Tobago with a time of 38.10 s. In the 100-meter run, however, he missed the final this time. With a time of 10.16 s he was eliminated in the semi-finals.
At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he reached the quarter-finals over 100 m.
Brown won the next silver medal in the relay at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin . Together with Marc Burns, Emmanuel Callander and Richard Thompson , he achieved a new national record in 37.62 s.
Darrel Brown has a competition weight of 79 kg with a height of 1.80 m.
