Daryl Mark Stuermer (born November 27, 1952 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is an American musician and guitarist . Stuermer has become known to a wide audience through his collaboration with the band Genesis and their singer Phil Collins .

biography

Daryl Stuermer grew up in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , where he began playing the guitar at the age of 11 . First of jazz influences, is Stuermer turned by musicians like Jimi Hendrix of rock music to. In his first rock band Sweetbottom Stuermer achieved first local fame. In 1975 he met Frank Zappa's keyboardist , George Duke , at a Sweetbottoms concert , who gave him an engagement with the jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty . This engagement included, among other things, participation in a world tour and four studio albums.

Stuermer 1980

In December 1977 Stuermer successfully took part in a casting for the band Genesis, who were looking for a guitarist and bassist for the upcoming world tour "And Then There Were Three". Since then, Daryl has appeared regularly in live performances by the band Genesis as a guitarist and bassist. Phil Collins jokingly referred to Stuermer as a "permanent temporary part-time member".

When Phil Collins began his solo career in 1981, Stuermer took over the guitar live and in the studio. Stuermer was also involved here as a co-writer of various songs such as Something Happened on the Way to Heaven . Stuermer also appeared on the solo albums of the other Genesis members Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford .

In addition to his collaboration with Genesis and Phil Collins, Daryl Stuermer has also pursued his own projects and published various solo albums. After the "Invisible Touch" tour of Genesis in 1987, he seized the opportunity and recorded his first solo album Steppin 'Out on GRP Records. In May 1998 Stuermer founded the independent record company "Urban Island Music" with the album Live and Learn as its first release.

He produced the Spasenie Crossing the Jordan studio album in 2004.
