action

A research station is being built on a remote island in the South Sea, where scientists and physicians are experimenting for the benefit of mankind. With the help of old Voodoo recipes, those present try to create a new kind of panacea to prevent human cell decay in order to ultimately defeat all diseases and death. In the experimental series of tests, the defenseless islanders are used unscrupulously as test subjects . In a test of this type, an underage girl suffering from leukemia is injected with the immune serum . The little one dies unexpectedly. The father of the dead, an important voodoo priest, is so angry that he curses the whole island, opens the “gate to hell” and brings the dead back to life as man-eating beasts. Then the undead creatures, so-called zombies , slaughter the scientists and everyone present. Only the little Jenny, protected by an amulet, escapes the bloodthirsty goings-on.

Two decades later, two separate groups reached the supposedly idyllic island, which was the scene of bloody atrocities in the recent past. Even before entering the tropical island, the cannibalistic undead announce their presence, but the curious and unsuspecting teams ignore this warning.

On the one hand, David, Chuck and Valarie are exploring the wilderness in search of the once lost scientists. You will come across a strange grotto with lights and candles, as well as the “Book of the Dead”, which contains a magic formula for raising the dead. Out of recklessness and carelessness, they activate the magical voodoo spell, whereupon other deceased rise from the graves and murderously assault the trio. Despite heavy resistance, David and Valarie are killed, and the brave Chuck escapes. On the other hand, an enterprising group of six mercenaries and vacationers is stranded on the said island, including the now grown-up Jenny and her drive-controlled friend Louise. The adventurous visitors are soon attacked by angry beasts. A member of the stranded, Tommy, is bitten and injured by zombies. With the presence of mind, the group of mercenaries flees inland to an abandoned infirmary, which is adjacent to a cemetery. Here the injured person, whose state of health is changing worryingly, is given makeshift care. At the same time the defense means found to organize M16 - assault rifles . The hospital is soon besieged by zombies.

Chuck finally reaches the infirmary. Meanwhile, Tommy mutates into a monster; there are other people seeking protection. A struggle for survival against the almost invulnerable undead begins. Wild shootings and violent attacks by the beasts mean that the number of the living continues to decline. In this situation, Jenny suddenly remembers her origins. She reveals to Chuck and the astonished mercenaries that she once lived in the unreal place with her parents as a toddler. In the midst of this hostile environment, she plans with the help of Chuck and the dark-skinned Dan to close the gate to hell by means of a magical ritual, but a first attempt fails. Jenny and Chuck have to flee after further attacks on the now overrun infirmary, while Dan effectively fights a larger zombie character with suicidal intent. At the end of the film the only remaining survivors, Jenny and Chuck, find the entrance to the grotto, where Jenny closes the gate to hell in an absurd ritual while Chuck is killed by a monster who is present. With the willingness to sacrifice her soul, the portal is finally closed; in the somewhat unclear end she chooses a life far from human existence.
