The Secret of the Red Cat is a German feature film from 1949 with Heinz Rühmann in the leading role. It is a remake of the 1931 feature film of the same name .
action
André is an unsuccessful actor who is supposed to create a suitable atmosphere in the seedy Parisian pub "Die Rote Cat" with a role as gang leader. Gloria Jefferson, daughter of an American jewelry dealer, is attracted by the hustle and bustle. In the meantime, her father is said to have acquired the huge diamond called "Halifax". The crook Pitou intends to steal the diamond and sees in André a serious opponent. Pitou forces André to join forces with him. Over time, the gemstone changes hands several times until it finally gets back into the hands of the jeweler. Gloria and André become a couple, while the real gangsters are exposed.

The same material, which goes back to an idea by Erich Engels , was filmed in 1931 by the director Erich Schönfelder under the same title. The new film was shot in the Bavaria Film studio in Geiselgasteig . The outdoor shots were taken in and around Munich. The Secret of the Red Cat was premiered in Munich on April 14, 1949.
