The Suffering of Christ is a UK mini drama series produced by BBC and HBO Films in association with Deep Indigo Productions. It tells the story of the last week in the life of Jesus Christ . Following the success of shown on television the passion play Manchester Passion , the series was in 2006 by the producer Peter Fincham announced.
The role of Jesus Christ is played by Joseph Mawle . Other leading roles were played by Paloma Beaza ( Maria Magdalena ), Ben Daniels (Kaiaphas), James Nesbitt ( Pontius Pilatus ), David Oyelowo ( Joseph of Arimathäa ) and Penelope Wilton ( Maria ). The film was shot from August 27 to October 23 in Morocco under the direction of Michael Offer .
action
The four- or six-part series, depending on how they are counted, deals with the last days in the life of Jesus. The point in time extends from Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday through the condemnation of Jesus at the instigation of the Caiaphas, the subsequent Last Supper and the crucifixion to the resurrection . Scriptwriter Frank Deasys and producer Nigel Stafford-Clark's intention from the beginning was to loosen the "fetters" of classic film adaptations of this material. They did this by increasing the roles of Pontius Pilate and Kaiaphas in the film adaptation and also taking up the history of the politics of Judea . Deasy and Stafford-Clar received research support from Mark Doodacre , with whom they wrote the background story. At the end of the series, Kaiaphas' wife gives birth to a son, and Pilate and his wife return to Caesarea Maritima .
Charisma
It was first broadcast in four episodes from March 16 to 23, 2008 on the British broadcaster BBC One . The broadcast reached a range of 3.2 to 4.9 million viewers and was largely received positively by the critics. In Germany, the first broadcast took place from March 13 to March 27, 2013 in double episodes on Sky Atlantic HD. In contrast to the broadcast in Great Britain, the first and third episodes are shown on Sky Atlantic HD in 2 episodes of 30 minutes each.
