John Lynch (born December 26, 1961 in Corrinshego, Newry , Northern Ireland ) is a Northern Irish actor .

Life and accomplishments

Lynch studied at St. Colman's College in Newry and later at London's Central School of Speech and Drama . He made his debut as a child in the thriller On Her Majesty's Pay (1969), in which Roger Moore played the leading role. As an adult, he first played one of the leading roles in the thriller Cal (1984), for which he was nominated for the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Award) in 1985. In the 1992 film Tote Gleise he played one of the bigger roles alongside Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland .

He was nominated for the 1997 Golden Satellite Award for his role in the historical film drama Moll Flanders - Whore against Will , in which Lynch played alongside Morgan Freeman . In the drama She Loves Him - She Doesn't Love Him (1998), Lynch played Gerry , Helen Quilley's unfaithful boyfriend , played by Gwyneth Paltrow . He had the lead role in the film drama Best (2000), for which he also wrote the script. For this role he won the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival Award . He was nominated for the Irish IFTA Award for his role in the television movie The Baby War (2005) .

Since 2013 he has played the role of Jim Burns in the BBC Two crime series The Fall - Death in Belfast .
