David Calvin Gardner (born August 23, 1952 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who worked for the Montréal Canadiens , St. Louis Blues , California Golden Seals , Cleveland Barons and Philadelphia Flyers from 1970 to 1985 played in the National Hockey League . His father Cal , brother Paul and son Ryan were also professional ice hockey players.
Career
Dave Gardner began his career as a hockey player with the Toronto Marlboros , for which he was active from 1970 to 1972 in the Ontario Hockey Association . He was then selected in the first round of the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft as the eighth player of the Montreal Canadiens . For the team from Québec , the attacker made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1972/73 season , but played mainly for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Nova Scotia Voyageurs . After he began the following season in Montréal, he was given to the St. Louis Blues shortly before the end of the trade deadline in exchange for a first hour suffrage for the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft . For the Blues he only appeared 23 times before he moved to their league rivals California Golden Seals at the beginning of the 1974/75 season. From 1976 to 1978 the right-shooter played for their successor team, the Cleveland Barons .
After the Cleveland Barons franchise was dissolved in the summer of 1978, Gardner spent much of the 1978/79 season in the Central Hockey League , where he played for the Tulsa Oilers and Dallas Black Hawks , before playing with the Springfield Indians in the AHL finished. In his last year in North America , the center came to two appearances in the NHL for the Philadelphia Flyers in addition to the games for the AHL teams of Binghamton Dusters and Maine Mariners . Thereupon the Canadian was under contract until the end of his career in 1985, where he played for HC Ambrì-Piotta and EHC Visp .
