Dave Kurtzer

David Robert "Dave" Kurtzer (born October 25, 1925 in New York City , † April 9, 2014 in Chapel Hill (North Carolina) ) was an American jazz and orchestral musician ( bassoon , oboe and baritone saxophone ).

Live and act

Kurtzer began his musical career as a teenager in New York; He had his first professional engagement in the late 1940s in the band of Shep Fields , with which the first recordings were made. In the following years he worked in various big bands and in the Latin jazz scene in Tito Puente's orchestra. He also worked from the 1950s on recordings of Gil Evans ( Gil Evans and Ten , 1957), Oscar Pettiford , Lucy Reed , Herbie Mann , Tito Rodríguez , Don Elliott , Hal Schaefer , Bobby Scott and Boyd Raeburn . He also worked as an accompanist for singers and on New York Broadway in various musicals such as The Most Happy Fella (1956) and Sweet Charity (1966). After he retired as an active musician, Kurtzer worked as a music teacher in Oceanside, Long Island ; He spent his retirement from 2006 in Carolina Meadows. In the field of jazz he was involved in 14 recording sessions between 1941 and 1959.
