David John Artell (born November 22, 1980 in Rotherham ) is a former English - Gibraltar football player .

Career

Clubs as active players

In 1998 Artell moved from the U-18 to the 1st team at Rotherham United. There he played from 1998 to 2003. In the 2002/03 season he was loaned to Shrewsbury Town. In the summer of 2013 he moved to Mansfield Town. Here he played until 2005 and then left the club for Chester City. After he left the club in 2007, he played at Morecambe FC (2007-2010) and Crewe Alexandra (2010-2012). In August 2012 he moved to Northampton Town. However, he was loaned to Wrexham FC from February to May 2013. His return after the loan expired was short-lived. Because in September 2013 he moved permanently to Wrexham.

After only one season he left Wrexham and moved to Wales . In the summer of 2014 he signed a contract with Bala Town, who play in the top division of the League of Wales . Here he also came to his first appearance in a UEFA club competition . In the 1: 3 defeat against FC Differdingen 03 from Luxembourg, he played over 90 minutes in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League .

On February 12, 2016, he moved to Port Talbot Town within the League of Wales. They parted ways in the summer of 2016. He moved to Kidsgrove Athletic in England on July 1, 2016. Artell made one last move on November 25, 2016. It went to FC Droylsden, where he ended his playing career on January 6, 2017.

Coaching career

On January 8, 2017 Artell took over the coaching position at Crewe Alexandra in Football League Two .

National team

He made his debut for Gibraltar on March 1, 2014. In the 1: 4 defeat by Faroe Islands , he came on in the 87th minute for Joseph Chipolina . He also played a few games in qualifying for the 2016 European Football Championship . Among other things, he played for 90 minutes in the 4-0 defeat against Germany on November 14, 2014 in Nuremberg . Artell played his last game in the national jersey on March 25, 2015. In the 6-1 defeat against Scotland in the European Championship qualification, he was substituted in the 53rd minute for Jean-Carlos Garcia .
