David Dillon

David B. Dillon (born March 30, 1951 in Hutchinson , Kansas ) is an American manager . He was the chief executive officer of the grocery - supermarket chain Kroger .

Life

Dillon was born in Hutchinson. His great-grandfather was the founder of the supermarket chain "Dillons". He attended Hutchinson High School and then studied business at the University of Kansas and then graduated with a law degree from Southern Methodist University .

In 1976 he joined the Dillons company . Between 1977 and 1983 he was Vice President of Merchandising and Warehousing . Dillon and Kroger merged in 1983. From 1983 to 1986 he was Vice President of Dillon. He then became chairman of Dillons in 1986 . He held this position until 1995. In 1990 he was finally named Vice President of Kroger. In 1995 he was appointed Chief Operating Officer .

In 2003 he became Chief Executive Officer and a year later Chairman of the Board of Directors . In 2013 he stepped down from his position as CEO and in 2014 from his position as Chairman .

He is on the board of directors of the American television satellite operator and program provider DirecTV . He is also a Board of Trustees for the University-Cincinnati Foundation. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati. As well as the University of Kansas Endowment. He is also on the Catalyst Board of Trustees. He has a seat on the Board of Directors at Bethesda Inc. He also has a seat on the Board of Directors of the Consumer Goods Forum and the Food Marketing Institute.

Private

David Dillon is married with three children and six grandchildren .
