David Franck

David Franck , also Francke (born April 13, 1682 in Lychen , Uckermark , † July 21, 1756 probably in Sternberg , Mecklenburg ) was a German historian , school principal and preacher.

Life

David Franck was born the 15th child of a pastor family. He and his siblings received home schooling from their father until he was 10. Franck learned Latin , Greek and Hebrew at an early age . After attending schools in Templin , Prenzlau and Neubrandenburg , he earned his living as a tutor in Anklam at the age of 17 and attended a monastery high school in Berlin for two years a year later .

Franck studied theology , law , French and Syriac at the University of Rostock from 1702 to 1705 . In 1713 he became principal of the Sternberg school. From 1722 he worked as a pastor, and in 1729 he was given the church office of the Sternberg preposition .

Since 1718 he wrote, among other things, on the history of Mecklenburg and the city of Sternberg. After large parts of Sternberg burned down in a town fire in 1742, he persistently and then successfully campaigned for the reconstruction of the town with the Dukes of Mecklenburg Karl Leopold and Christian Ludwig II . David Franck gave the town of Sternberg permission to log in the princely forests in order to rebuild the heavily damaged town church . From 1753 onwards, the 19 volumes of his main work, Old and New Mecklenburg, were published .

In 2012 the Sternberg comprehensive school was named "Associated Regional School and Gymnasium 'David Franck' Sternberg".
