David Ochoa Ramírez (born January 16, 2001 in Oxnard , California ) is an American football player in the position of goalkeeper .

Club career

David Ochoa was born on January 16, 2001 in the city of Oxnard, California. At the age of 15, he made the leap to the Arizona Academy of the Major League Soccer franchise Real Salt Lake , where he played primarily in the U-15 / U-16 team in the 2016/17 season. After 15 appearances in the regular season, he then came to four play-off appearances. At the time , Ochoa, who was living in Casa Grande , Arizona, moved to the main academy of Real Salt Lake and appeared there alternately for the U-16 / U-17 team and the U-18 / U-19 team . In the 2017/18 season he played a total of 14 missions for the U-16 / U-17 team, as well as 17 appearances, 13 of them in the regular season, for the U-18 / U-19 team mentioned. Selection.

Because of his performance, he was soon introduced to the Real Salt Lake farm team , the Real Monarchs . For the 2019 season , Ochoa was added to Real Salt Lake 's MLS squad . He also continues to play for the Real Monarchs in the USL Championship .

National team career

Ochoa gained his first experience in a national team of the US Football Association in the US U-14 team . Since he would also be eligible to play for the national teams of the Mexican Football Association due to his Mexican origins , he was brought into the Mexican U-16 national team in 2016 . At this level he also worked for the USA and as such took part in a training camp and tournament under coach Shaun Tsakiris in December 2016 in Bradenton , Florida , and in February 2017 in a training camp in Argentina . Under the U-18 coach Omid Namazi and Tsakiris as assistant coach, Ochoa then took part in the tournament of Montaigu , a U-16 tournament for national teams, in April .

After joining the United States' U-17 program early in 2017 , U-17 national coach John Hackworth also brought him to the US squad to prepare for the U-17 World Cup . However , Ochoa did not belong to the final 21-man squad that took part in the World Cup finals in India . In November 2017, the then 16-year-old made it into the US U-18 squad for a training camp at the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista , California. The following year, he and the team took part in two friendlies against their colleagues from Costa Rica in February, as well as in the Václav Ježek memorial tournament in August. At this tournament, Ochoa contributed significantly to the performance of the Americans. The US U-18 national team won the title for the third time in the tournament, which has been held since 1994 , after beating the Japanese U-18 national team 4-2 on penalties . Ochoa saved the first and third penalty shot by the Japanese.

In the same year, Ochoa also made it into the United States' U-20 squad and in May was part of a 21-man squad that played in two friendly internationals in Honduras .
