action
Charles Dump ekes out his days as an overseer of the disused mining settlement Deadlock, which is also inhabited by the old whore Corinna and her mute, mentally retarded daughter Jessy. One day he finds the seriously injured kid in the surrounding desert who is carrying a suitcase with money from a bank robbery. Dump plans to kill Kid first, but fails and eventually takes him in to nurse him back to health. He tries again and again to get the money and tortures and humiliates the injured person on all occasions, but shies away from getting him out of the way for good. Kid meanwhile keeps an eye on Jessy, who makes him sexual advances, and hides the stolen money.
Soon after, Kids' older partner Sunshine arrives in Deadlock, behind whose pretended friendly facade there is pronounced malice, and who drives the simple-minded, still squinting dump to despair with sadistic games to find out from him where Kid the money has hidden. Dump's constant, stupid attempts to deceive the two of them or play them off against each other finally end with Sunshine driving him through the desert with his truck.
Kid and Sunshine split the money between themselves and leave Deadlock with this vice. Sunshine, however, throws Kid out shortly afterwards and runs away alone with all the prey. Kid stays with Jessy, with whom he has developed a relationship. When Sunshine checked the suitcase during a stopover, he discovered that the Kid had again hidden his share elsewhere. Furious, he drives back to Deadlock and demands the prey from him. Kid only meets Sunshine's demands with provocations, so that the always stoic Sunshine finally loses his nerve and shoots Jessy and her mother in a fit of rage. Kid, for his part, executes the completely desperate Sunshine with several volleys and leaves Deadlock on foot.
Only seven people can be seen in the film. While the five men act planned, deliberate or scheming, the two female characters are only characterized by alcoholism, psychological problems and dependence on men.

criticism
“The stylish mix of gangster ballad and neo-westerns, embedded in the psychedelic sound of the Cologne herb rockers 'Can', was awarded the gold film ribbon in 1971. A real nugget for nostalgics. "
"Effectively and emotionally staged adventure drama, which illustrates the classic genre dramaturgies of the western and gangster film with an almost psychedelic aesthetic."
