history

The Ostedeichverband emerged from the previous dyke associations Deichverband Nordkehdingen, Deichverband Südkehdingen, Ostedeichverband I, Oste-Deichverband II and the sub-area of ​​Ostedeichverband III, which was to the right of the Oste , and their legal successors in 2004 through a statutory ordinance of the Lüneburg district government .

Association area

The Deichverband is responsible for an area in northeast Lower Saxony that extends over parts of the districts of Stade ( Kehdinger Land ), Cuxhaven and Rotenburg (Wümme) . The area includes all properties up to a height of +6.00 m above sea ​​level including the higher ground elevations within this area.

The main dike line in the association area along the Elbe is 52.6 kilometers long. It runs from the general plan kilometer 507.9 at the eastern barrier to the general plan kilometer 560.5 at the swing barricade and, in addition to the Elbe dike, also includes the dyke sections on the Oste from the barrage to the Elbe dike (right Ostedeich) and on the swing from the swing barricade to the Elbe dike (left swing dike ) .

The association area also includes the protective dike on the right bank of the Oste between the eastern barrier and the eastern weir in Bremervörde as well as the second dike lines in the north of the association area east of the eastern barrier and the Elbe dike at the Freiburg barrage and in the Krautsand area between Assel, Drochtersen , Dornbusch and Wischhafen .

The association area of ​​the Deichverband Kehdingen-Oste borders in the west on the association area of ​​the Ostedeichverband and in the southeast on the association area of ​​the dike association of the I. Meile Altenlandes .

tasks

The dyke association has the task of protecting properties in the association area from storm surges and floods . To this end, he maintains the main dykes in the association area .

The dykes are grazed by sheep to ensure the dyke safety.

Club structure

The association is represented by a committee that is elected by the association members. This dike committee consists of 36 members. For its part, it elects a board known as the Deichamt, which is made up of eleven board members. A personal representative is also elected for each committee and board member. Four deputies are elected for the dike office chairman.

Members of the association are all landowners and leaseholders of the properties located in the association area.
