Delia Reinhardt (singer)
Delia Reinhardt ( April 27, 1892 in Elberfeld - October 6, 1974 in Arlesheim near Basel ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ) and painter .
Life
Reinhardt was a student of Ludwig Strakosch and Hedwig Schako at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main .
She made her debut in Breslau in 1913 as "Messenger of Peace" in Rienzi and stayed there until 1916. From 1916 to 1922/1923 she was - at the invitation of Bruno Walter - at the Hofoper (State Opera from 1918) in Munich . From 1922/1923 she was then at the Metropolitan Opera in New York . There she made her debut as "Sieglinde" in Die Walküre and appeared in a total of ten major roles, including a. as "Elisabeth" in Tannhäuser , as "Agathe", as "Butterfly", as "Fiordiligi" and as "Gita" in Le Roi de Lahore by Jules Massenet .
After returning to Europe, she was in the ensemble of the Berlin State Opera from 1924 to 1935 . In 1929 she was in the opening performance of the State Opera, which was reopened after a renovation, as "Pamina" in the Magic Flute in the presence of Reich President Paul von Hindenburg .
Guest performances have taken her to the Covent Garden Opera in London (1924–29), to the opera houses of Copenhagen , Budapest , Amsterdam and Brussels , to Italian and Spanish theaters and to the Berlin City Opera . In 1931 she had a guest appearance at the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires in Wagner roles .
For political reasons she could no longer perform in Germany from 1937. She lived in Berlin until the end of the Second World War , but there she lost her entire house in a bomb attack and then went to Bavaria.
Bruno Walter invited her to move to Santa Monica , California . After Walter's death in 1962, she went to Dornach in Switzerland . After finishing her career as a singer, she worked as a painter .
Reinhardt's first marriage was to the baritone Gustav Schützendorf (1883–1937) and his second marriage to the conductor Georg Sebastian (1901–1984).
