Demnitz is a district of the Steinhöfel community in the Oder-Spree district in the state of Brandenburg .

Geographical location

The district is located southeast of the community center; to the north is the district of Hasenfelde . The districts of Wilmersdorf and Falkenberg (zu Briesen (Mark) ) and the city of Fürstenwalde / Spree follow in a clockwise direction . The majority of the district is used for agriculture. Wooded areas are in the area with the wild heather in the southwest and further forest areas in the east. To the northeast, the Upstallgraben forms a natural border that flows through Demnitz to the south. The main ditch in Demnitz also drains in the same direction and flows into the Steinhöfel water overpass into the Upstall ditch. As a further canal, the Kuhluchgraben drains in a south-westerly direction into the Neuendorfer Hauptgraben and finally into the Spree . The development is concentrated around a historical village green , which lies in the middle of the district and extends there in a north-south direction.

history

Demnitz was first mentioned in a document on June 15, 1354. The name is derived from the Slavic language and means something like from wild roots . Demnitz was founded by clearing . The village church was built in the late Gothic period , ie from 1350 to approx. 1520/1530 . In 1719 the place became the royal property of the allod and in 1805 came into the possession of the court marshal Valentin von Massow . It stayed there until the end of the Second World War . In 1979 a home parlor opened in the rectory. With effect from October 26, 2003 Demnitz was incorporated into Steinhöfel.

High bridge
  • The village church Demnitz is a field stone church . Inside there is a wooden altarpiece from the end of the 16th century
  • Heimatverein Demnitz, which among other things presents the history of the village in a home parlor in the former manor house. It goes back to many years of work by the local chronicler Rudolf Oßwald.
  • High or iron bridge: Adelheid von Massow , née Kuylenstjerna, had the path between Steinhöfel and Demnitz straightened and a bridge built in 1868. This was first renovated in 1892. The locals popularly say that there used to be ghosts who appeared at midnight. For a long time, the people of Demnitz avoided the bridge. In 1958 the structure was reinforced; 1973 the road was widened and tarred. Since 2008 a board north of the bridge has been providing information on popular history.

The village road runs from the north-west in a southerly direction through the village and forms the main traffic axis. There is a connection to Steinhöfel via it and via the southern connection of Landstrasse 38 to federal motorway 12 . The bus route 433 of the Oder-Spree bus service connects Demnitz im Sande with Arensdorf and Fürstenwalde.
