Demofilo Fidani (born February 8, 1914 in Cagliari , Sardinia , † March 1994 in Rome ) was an Italian film director , screenwriter , actor and painter.

Life

Fidani grew up in Sardinia and attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome after finishing school, where he initially concentrated on painting. In 1941 he made his film debut as an assistant screenwriter. This initially remained an episode - he mainly worked as an outfitter for films - until he wrote for numerous films in the early 1960s and also worked as a director from 1967. Fidani specialized in spaghetti westerns and is known as " Ed Wood of the spaghetti western ". He also wrote the scripts for his films and produced them cheaply, which were often shot on the premises of the Cave Films (owner: Gordon Mitchell ). He can be seen as an actor in three of his films, as well as in Mino Guerrini's gangster film Sicario 77 and in his production Prega Dio… e scavati la fossa! . In addition to his 14 westerns, he shot crime novels, a Tarzan parody and sex films.

In 1986 he published a book on parapsychological phenomena, who worked for years as a medium; He also repeatedly devoted himself to painting.

With many fans Fidani enjoys cult status as the " Ed Wood of the Italo-Western" ( Christian Keßler ), as a kind of "Anti-Leone". He also didn't want to create any works of art, he just wanted to earn money. He used many scenes twice (his 1976 film The Godfather of the Bronx, for example, consists largely of Sedia elettrica , which was made seven years earlier ); in westerns, long shots in which there is simply riding extend the playing time of the clearly told story.

"Regular actors" Fidanis were u. a. Hunt Powers (= Jack Betts), Gordon Mitchell , Klaus Kinski , Jeff Cameron (= Giovanni Scarciofolo), Dennis Colt (= Benito Pacifico) and his daughter Simonetta Vitelli alias Simone Blondell; his wife Mila Vitelli (actually Rosa Maria Valenza , † 2007) was always there as an outfitter and often as a co-author.
