Denis Milo [ˈdenɪs ˈmɪləʊ] (born May 18 in Moscow , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a German opera, oratorio, lieder and concert singer of Russian-Jewish descent with a baritone voice .

Early life

Milo and his parents moved to Germany as a quota refugee when he was three years old . First he attended the mosaic elementary school in Berlin-Mitte . He then attended the Jewish high school Moses Mendelssohn . He gained his first stage experience in the Friedrichstadt-Palast .

Career

At the age of twelve, Milo appeared for the first time in the children's musical adaptation of Emil and the Detectives . This performance enabled performances in large parts of Europe, North America and Japan.

As a baritone , Milo first studied philosophy at the State University of Saint Petersburg , and later singing at the Berlin University of the Arts . He completed master classes with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau , Júlia Várady , Robert Holl , Rudolf Piernay and Thomas Quasthoff . He successfully participated in international singing competitions, including the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition . His repertoire includes roles such as the title role in Don Giovanni , Count Almaviva ( Le nozze di Figaro ), Dottore Malatesta ( Don Pasquale ), Papageno ( The Magic Flute ) and the title role in Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Tchaikovsky .

From 2016 to 2018, Milo was a member of the opera studio of the Komische Oper Berlin , where he appeared on stage as Fiorello ( Il barbiere di Siviglia ), Moralès ( Carmen ), Masetto ( Don Giovanni ) and Zoprire ( Zoroastre ), among others .

From the 2018/2019 season he began his permanent engagement at the State Theater in Nuremberg . Roles that have already been sung include Figaro ( Il barbiere di Siviglia ), Denissov ( War and Peace ) by Prokofiev , Billy ( Anna Nicole ) by Turnage and Gugielmo ( Così fan tutte ) by Mozart.

Further engagements took him to the Tonhalle Zurich , Alte Oper Frankfurt , Philharmonie Berlin and the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence .

On the concert platform games Milo sang in numerous cantatas of Bach , the Requiem by Verdi , in Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and in the 9th Symphony of Beethoven .
