Dennis Todorović

Dennis Todorović (born December 28, 1977 in Ellwangen ) is a film director and author living in Germany .

biography

The son of a Czech mother and a Montenegrin father spent his childhood and youth in Swabia and moved to England after graduating from high school to study theater and television directing at ARTTS International. He then lived for a few years in Prague , where he worked in various film positions, including as Art Department Coordinator for the two-part TV series Anne Frank , which received an Emmy in 2001 for best equipment.

From 2002 to 2005 he studied directing at the International Film School in Cologne . His graduation film Amor Fati , which screened at numerous film festivals around the world in 2006 - including the Locarno International Film Festival - was nominated for the First Steps Award of the German Film Academy in the same year , received the national audience award at the Dresden Film Festival and won the sponsorship award for co-productions with Germany and Central and Eastern Europe of the Robert Bosch Foundation .

His cinema debut Sascha celebrated his world premiere at the Frameline Film Festival in San Francisco in 2010 and his German premiere at the Hof International Film Festival , where he received the award for music and sound design. The film was released in German and Polish cinemas in 2011 and received numerous film prizes, including awards from the festivals in Valencia, Athens, Bilbao and the audience award at the Mezipatra film festival in Prague.

In October 2015, Todorović's feature film Sister White , for whose screenplay he was nominated for the Thomas Strittmatter Screenplay Award in 2012 , premiered at the Hof International Film Festival and was nominated as “Best Film” as part of the award ceremony for the New German Cinema Award. It was released in German cinemas on October 20, 2016. The main roles of the co-production with SWR and Arte are Lisa Martinek , Željka Preksavec and Beatrice Richter to see. As in previous productions by Todorović, Andreas Köhler was in charge of the camera .

Dennis Todorović is a graduate of numerous, well-known European training programs, including EKRAN at the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing in Warsaw , the authors program at the Cologne International Film School, the Script Station and Talent Market at Berlinale Talents and the Sarajevo Talent Campus.

In 2008 he received a literary grant of the Arts Foundation of Baden-Wuerttemberg . For his science fiction feature film project The Laika capsule in 2015 he got together with co-author Christoph Mathieu that of Wim Wenders launched scholarship from the Wim Wenders Foundation and the Film and Media Foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia .

With co-author Christoph Mathieu he wrote the novel Lucid - Tödliche Träume for Bastei-Lübbe-Verlag .

Dennis Todorović lives and works as a director, author and lecturer for film acting in Cologne .
