The Denso Corporation ( Japanese 株式会社 デ ン ソ ー , Kabushiki kaisha Densō ) is a global automotive supplier , particularly for automotive electronics and automotive mechatronics . The company is based in Kariya in Aichi Prefecture in Japan .
The company was founded on December 16, 1949 as Nippondenso Co. Ltd. founded.
Originally, Denso was the electrical component manufacturing division of Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and separated after World War II when the Japanese "war machine" was wound up. In Japanese, Denso means “electrical elements” or simply electrical systems when you write it with the Japanese Kanji characters . However, since the company no longer only manufactures electrical components, the decision was made in 1996 to write "DENSO Corporation" with Katakana characters.
With around 146,000 employees and 188 branches worldwide, including 35 in European countries in 2015, the company is one of the largest Japanese corporations and is listed on the stock exchanges in Tokyo (with the ticker symbol 6902), Osaka and Nagoya . In the 2015 financial year, it recorded sales of the equivalent of 33.4 billion euros. The headquarters of the German subsidiary Denso AUTOMOTIVE Deutschland GmbH (DNDE) has been located in Eching near Munich since 1994 (founded in January 1984) . Denso Corporation was a sponsor of the Toyota Formula 1 team .
history
In 1949, Toyota's electrical component development division was established as Nippondenso Co. Ltd. split off. The partnership with the German company Bosch began in 1953 . From 1966, activities in the USA were expanded with offices in Chicago , Los Angeles and Detroit , and the first branch was founded in Los Angeles in 1971.
In 1984 a test track for motor vehicles was opened in Nukata and in 2001 the test center in Abashiri was opened.
Denso Wave
The subsidiary represents the business area for automatic identification and data acquisition (Auto-ID), industrial robots and special electronics for automation in production. It invented the CCD reading technology for 1D scanners and the two-dimensional QR code . The devices are manufactured by DENSO ELECS, another subsidiary with its own plant in Agui not far from Kariya. DENSO holds a majority of 75% in DENSO WAVE.
