The Dent de Vaulion is a 1483 m above sea level. M. high, striking mountain in the Vaud Jura near Vallorbe in Switzerland . The ridge shows a strongly asymmetrical topography: towards the north-west and north it drops steeply with up to 200 m high rock walls, while the slopes towards the south and south-east have a relatively low incline. This is how it was named Vaulion-Zahn .
geography
The Dent de Vaulion is bounded in the west by the valley of the Ruisseau des Epoisats , in the north by the valley basin of Vallorbe, in the east and southeast by the syncline of Vaulion , in which the Nozon rises, and in the south by the pass of Pétra Felix am Road crossing from L'Isle over the Col du Mollendruz into the Vallée de Joux . Visually, the Dent de Vaulion forms the north-eastern end of the high valley Vallée de Joux, although the separate valley furrow of the Ruisseau des Epoisats still lies between this valley and the mountain.
The slopes of the Dent de Vaulion are mainly covered with spruce forest, while the summit area shows the barren grass vegetation of the Upper Jurassic. The easily accessible summit is a popular destination with interesting views of the Vallée de Joux, the valley basin of Vallorbe and, if the weather is clear, as far as the Alps. In winter, a ski lift is in operation on the south-eastern slope of the mountain.
geology
The geological structure of the Dent de Vaulion is based on an anticline , the rock material of which comes from marine sediments of the Upper Jurassic Period ( Malm ). The anticline of the Dent de Vaulion was shifted to the north along the blade shift, which runs from Montricher via Vallorbe to Pontarlier . Because of this, the fold structure of the Jura Mountains is severely disturbed in this area.
