action

Resi Berghammer is going to Berchtesgaden for the women's world championship with the Tölzer bobsleigh pilot Evelyn Bergham's fan club , which was founded by bus operator Clemens Kirchhofer. Her son Benno does not tell her that he is also going to Berchtesgaden to celebrate his upcoming retirement with his former teacher Rudolf Schenkmeier, the head of the police station there.

During the final training, an act of sabotage is committed on Evelyn Bergham's bob, which the World Cup favorite and her brakeman will only survive unharmed with a lot of luck. In order not to provoke negative headlines and not to endanger the willingness to invest of the building contractor Anton Rambold and the State Secretary Berthold von Gluck, the bobsleigh association presents the incident as a technical defect.

After Benno Berghammer and Rudolf Schenkmeier have indulged in alcohol, Benno recommends his colleague to take a taxi home and retires to his hotel.

The next morning, the physiotherapist Dr. Zwingmann strangles Evelyn Bergham during her mandatory forest run. Multiple fractures suggest that the victim was run over. Chief Inspector Barbara Götze from the Traunstein Criminal Police Department is responsible for the case. Police chief Rudolf Schenkmeier, who has been waiting for 20 years to help solve a murder case, asks Benno Berghammer for help.

The video recordings of the training session show how Robert Lortz, the supervisor of Team Germany II, removes an Allen key from Evelyn Bergham's Bob's braking system and throws it away. When the inspectors want to visit Lortz, Mrs. Zwingmann has just come out of his house. The box she has with her contains doping substances. She admits that she wanted to get the big money with it, but she vehemently denies the murder. Lortz also denies the fact, but admits that he paid the driver of Team Germany III to manipulate Evelyn Bergham's bob's brakes in order to scare the favorite.

Clemens Kirchhofer tells Resi Berghammer that he washed his bus at the gas station early in the morning and watched a jeep drive into the forest and come back shortly afterwards; However, he does not know the license plate. Ms. Berghammer promises to inform her son about this as soon as possible, but she lets several opportunities slip by because she discovers who the vehicle belongs to. Only on the way home to Bad Tölz does she come out with it and justify her hesitation with the fact that she has not yet had the heart to hang his friend Schenkmeier on. In her opinion, the old policeman took matters into his own hands so that he could still deal with a murder. The inspector immediately turns back and confronts him. Schenkmeier reports tearfully that he just wanted to lock the jeep and call a taxi, but that made him so dizzy that he wanted to sit in the vehicle for a moment. He fell asleep and only woke up at dawn. Then he saw a lifeless person lying in front of his jeep and feared that he had run over her while drunk. Only when unloading the body did he notice the strangulation marks on his neck.

When it occurred to Rudolf Schenkmeier a little later that Clemens Kirchhofer could not have seen him from the gas station because he had used a secret route, Benno Berghammer realized why Kirchhofer had concealed his observation from the police. In addition, it is reasonable to assume that he saw Schenkhmeier in the hotel car park when the body was being removed. The inspector visits his colleague Götze, who is busy collecting evidence against her main suspect, bobsleigh maker Markus Hirschbichler. In her opinion, he has a strong motive because Evelyn Bergham destroyed his fame by moving to another manufacturer. Berghammer can still convince them of his suspicions against Kirchhofer. The commissioners find him in Markus Hirschbichler's workshop, where he is currently cranking the ether- anesthetized Bobbauer up on a rope around his neck. At Inspector Götze's request, he lets it down again. There is a suicide note on Hirschbichler's computer stating that he wanted to evade arrest. Clemens Kirchhofer testifies that he found out in a restaurant that Hirschbichler was suspected. As a motive, he indicates that Evelyn Bergham rejected him as a manager, although he believed in her potential from the very beginning. She wanted to enjoy her successes without him.
