The Marquis - the man who wanted to sell himself , also known under the short title The Marquis, is a Spanish-Danish film drama from 1965 with OW Fischer in the title role.
action
The eccentric and gambling addict Marquis Antonio de las Nieves is both burned down and proud. Since he doesn't want to kill himself, but rather wants to spend the last six months of his life in booze, he plans his departure in a particularly bizarre way. He turns to a killer organization, the Death Dealer Syndicate, which gives him a large sum of money while he takes out life insurance in return. If the hit man kills him in six months (which should look like an accident), the murder gang will benefit from the sum insured.
The Marquis receives the money and begins to enjoy life to the full in the greater Lisbon area. One day he meets the beautiful Elisa, with whom he immediately falls in love. And suddenly he's lucky too! The marquis now changes his attitude; Isn't it much nicer to experience the happiness of love than to give one's life for a lot of money? But how is he supposed to stop the hit man from killing him anytime soon? Will the representatives of this organization, led by a certain Christopher Kay, respond? After all, it is the police who save him at the last minute from the specially commissioned murder.
Production notes
The Marquis was filmed in Lisbon and Estoril (exterior shots) in 1965 and performed for the first time in Germany and Austria on November 12, 1965. The film structures came from Sigfrido Burmann .
For lead actor OW Fischer, his marquis was the first of three eccentric roles that he was to play until the final end of his film career in 1969. This was followed by a submarine captain in Go to bed, not to war, and a pleasure count in love birds .
Reviews
"Clumsily staged, unattractive mix of psychological and criminalistic components."
Paimann's film lists summed up: "This often varied action, which uses motifs, only becomes more captivating towards the end after details depicting society and OW Fischer's detailed characterization of her hero through compression ..."
"A very strange co-production."
