action

Chief Public Prosecutor Bernd Reuther investigates the murder of lawyer Beate Schwartz, who is found dead in her office . The perpetrator had tied her to her desk chair with zip ties and then pulled a plastic bag over her head so that she suffocated. Her sister, Sabine Schott, had found the dead woman and immediately notified the police. She thinks it is possible that the perpetrator was still in the house because she heard a door slam. Since her sister owned a large apartment building herself, she had mainly represented property owners and speculators. So there were so many people who didn't like her because of it. Sabine Schott can remember a woman with whom her sister recently had a violent argument. Klar and Schubert find a newspaper article accusing the lawyer of having increased the rental prices of their apartments so drastically that various tenants had to move out because they could no longer afford the rent. The author of this article is the journalist Johanna Plath, whom Klar and Schubert visit immediately. One of these tenants is Tim Baumann. He is on record because of a violent crime from the past and, fatally, his fingerprints are found on the bag with which the victim was suffocated. But since the bag comes from the sports shop in which Baumann works, this evidence cannot be used. While researching who had recently been served by Baumann, a young man stands out. Prosecutor Reuther sees this man when he meets with his acquaintance, the notary Wolfgang Esbach, in a cafe, where he is about to tell him about a dubious business deal with one of his customers. When Esbach has to go to the toilet, the man briefly and deliberately knocks him down so much that he dies. Even with the lawyer, a targeted blow to the neck was found that only a professional martial artist or member of a special unit can perform. So Klar and Schubert agree that they are probably dealing with the same perpetrator in both murders.

Public prosecutor Reuther is researching the real estate industry to find something that could point to the secret raised by Esbach. In doing so, he comes across a dubious business deal: When buying real estate, the - mostly older homeowners - are taken into account in the purchase contracts for the repayment of the property, fees and repair costs, so that after the sale the former owners have almost nothing left. Schwartz bought her apartment building exactly according to this model, which is why Johanna Plath, the granddaughter of the saleswoman, had launched a campaign against the lawyer. Plath also knows that real estate companies often work with their investors' illicit money, which she cannot yet sufficiently prove. Prosecutor Reuther asks you to be careful with your research. The first thing he does is take a close look at Andreas Amlang's company, as he has been extremely interested in buying Beate Schwartz's apartment building for weeks. Klar and Schubert meanwhile control all martial arts schools in the city, where they manage to locate Deni Terloy who matches the description of the perpetrator. But when they want to arrest him, he has just been stabbed himself. Christian Schubert pursues the perpetrator; but this shoots immediately and can escape. For the investigators, these are all clear indications of contract killers.

Since Amlang already owns a whole street and he only lacks Beate Schwartz's property, the murder investigations are increasingly focused on him. Johanna Plath also researches him and makes the mistake of provoking him and revealing fragments of her work results. He reports this to his client Boris Welednitzkow, who takes care of such uncomfortable problems and puts his professional killer Wasilij Schischkin on Plath, who stabs her in front of Reuther's eyes. The emergency doctor gives the public prosecutor the victim's cell phone, on which Reuther finds the incriminating phone call that Amlang made shortly after her visit with Welednitzkow. Your further research shows that a major project is being planned for the city center, in which Amlang owns the relevant land. The investigators are now wondering who is already investing their money in a construction project for which there has not even been an official commitment. Reuther doesn't have to lure Welednitzkow out of his reserve, he has enough evidence against him. Nevertheless, he provokes him so that he incites his killer on the public prosecutor, who is shot by Schubert during this operation. Welednitzkow himself cannot arrest Reuther at first because he suddenly shows a Russian diplomatic passport. Thanks to Reuther's good relations, he still manages to arrest Welednitzkow for fivefold murders: Beate Schwartz had to die because she did not want to sell her house. Esbach was killed when he wanted to talk to the prosecutor about his wife's involvement in Velednitzkows projects. After the investigators found Deni Terloy, he was also murdered, and Johanna Plath got too close to the truth. Most recently, he had also shot Marion Esbach because she knew too much about him and he feared that she too might betray him to Reuther. Amlang is also held accountable for aiding and abetting bankruptcy crimes.

criticism

Frank Jürgens from noz.de wrote: “Friends of conventional crime food can usually rely on the ZDF productions on Friday evening. For example, 'The Public Prosecutor' […] offers a classically tricky case […], although a perpetrator is exposed relatively quickly. But when looking for the people behind it, the police, all behind the over-motivated Inspector Schubert, are always a nose's length too late. The fact that several homicides are committed in the presence of the public prosecutor is a bit of a strain on credibility. But of course this does not reduce the tension. "
