The Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung ( Neue OZ , NOZ ) is a regional daily newspaper for the area around the city of Osnabrück , for the Emsland and other regions. It appears in some regions with a largely identical cover section and location-specific title (e.g. Lingener Tagespost / Meppener Tagespost or - in Papenburg - Ems-Zeitung ). The sold edition of the complete edition is 154,919 copies, a decrease of 13.6 percent since 1998. The edition as a journalistic unit is around 200,000 copies. The sheet is published by the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung publishing house.

Editor and editor

Ralf Geisenhanslüke has been editor-in-chief since September 2011, who moved from the Schwäbische Zeitung to Osnabrück. The deputy editor-in-chief is Berthold Hamelmann, and the deputy editor-in-chief is Burkhard Ewert.

Franz Schmedt was editor-in-chief of the newspaper for many years from 1968 to 2002 .

The editors are Werner F. Ebke and the publisher Jan Dirk Elstermann. Founding editors of the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung were Leo Victor Fromm and Elisabeth Elstermann.

The Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung was created in 1967 through the merger of the two Osnabrücker daily newspapers Osnabrücker Tageblatt (OT), Verlag Meinders & Elstermann, and Neue Tagespost (NT), printing and publishing house Fromm. One of the previous newspapers was the Osnabrücker Volkszeitung , of which Antonius Fromm was editor-in-chief and publisher .

The Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung , like most German newspapers in recent years to rest lost. The number of copies sold has fallen by an average of 0.9% per year over the past 10 years. Together with the partner media Grafschafter Nachrichten , the Kreiszeitung Syke , the Rheiderland-Zeitung and the Oldenburgische Volkszeitung , the Neue OZ publishing house, as the leading publisher within the Südwest-Niedersachsen newspaper group, has a circulation of copies from Monday to Saturday. Together, the newspaper group reaches 584,000 readers every working day (MA 2018).

The main product is divided into five local editions: City of Osnabrück, North (Belm, Bissendorf, Wallenhorst), Southwest (Georgsmarienhütte, Hasbergen, Hagen), South (Bad Rothenfelde, Bad Iburg, Bad Laer, Glandorf, Hilter) and West (Lotte, Ibbenbueren, Westerkappeln, Tecklenburg).

The Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung is one of the most cited daily newspapers in Germany; its comments, interviews and news are often picked up by other media. As a result, the newspaper is also known nationwide.

Since January 1, 2015, NOZ MEDIEN has held a majority stake in the Delmenhorster Kreisblatt through the newly founded publishing company DK Medien, which has been sourcing the shell from Osnabrück ever since. Together with the 13,826 copies sold for the Delmenhorster Kreisblatt, the daily newspapers from NOZ MEDIEN reach around 400,000 readers with more than 170,000 copies.

The joint editorial team of the media group with the Osnabrück core editorial team of NOZ supplies publications belonging to the group and external customers such as E.g. the Schleswig-Holstein newspaper publisher (sh: z), the Schweriner Volkszeitung , the Münsterland newspaper group (including Westfälische Nachrichten ), the Nordsee editorial group (including the Nordsee-Zeitung , Bremerhaven), the Westfalen-Blatt (Bielefeld) and the Ostfriesische Nachrichten ( Aurich) with supraregional content from politics, economy and culture up to complete cover parts. The Berlin office writes for newspapers with a circulation of around 1 million. The NOZ office in Hanover also supplies several other newspapers with reports on state politics from Lower Saxony.

Digital products

The newspaper's website has existed since 2000 and has been continuously expanded. With the news portal www.noz.de, NOZ MEDIEN reached more than 2 million users (unique users) with over 6.9 million online visits per month in the first quarter of 2018. It is one of the most popular daily newspaper portals in Lower Saxony and offers information from and for the Osnabrück and Emsland regions. Since the introduction of the digital subscription model in January 2014, the noz.de website has been chargeable for Osnabrück and the Emsland, only 10 articles per month are freely readable.

The Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung and its regional editions have also been available on the Internet as ePaper since autumn 2007 . Registered users can read the original version anywhere in the world. As an extension of the digital offer, the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung (with its regional editions) has been available as a tablet app for the iPad since March 2012 . In June 2013 the app was expanded to include the so-called evening edition and since May 2014 it has also been available for Android tablets. The digital archive offers newspapers from the last ten years in PDF format.

The news app for smartphones was introduced in August 2014. This means that users can find out about the most important topics on the go via iPhone and smartphones with an Android system. This is updated every minute and is aimed primarily at readers between 25 and 35 years of age.

The Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung publishing house is family owned and financially independent. The managing directors are Axel Gleie (since June 2016) and Jens Wegmann (since January 2020).

The publishing house currently has more than 1,100 permanent employees, more than 150 of them in the editorial office . In 2005 a news desk was introduced for the editorial team .

In addition to the general editorial office and local editorial staff , the publisher has an administration , sales department , advertising department , marketing department and the technology for newspaper prepress and printing . Since spring 2007, the acceptance and sale of advertisements in the master sheets and special editions has been completely handed over to MSO Medien-Service GmbH & Co. KG . The sister company is also responsible for the digital marketing of its own products, while MSO Digital GmbH & Co. KG is an associated performance marketing agency that primarily advises external companies on cross-channel digital campaigns. Together with the software service provider basecom and the online marketing agency netspirits, MSO Digital forms the Grow Digital Group, which offers comprehensive support for the digital growth of medium-sized companies.

In spring 2014, the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung combined its activities under the umbrella of NOZ MEDIEN . Further sister companies and holdings with which specializations for different subject areas are mapped fall under the umbrella. For example, the previous print specialty stores are being adapted for the online area. This business area was expanded in particular with the acquisition of an online horse market and the establishment of ehorses GmbH & Co. KG in July 2011.

At the beginning of 2016, NOZ MEDIEN acquired medien holding: nord gmbh (mh: n), along with its subsidiaries Schleswig-Holsteinischer Zeitungsverlag GmbH & Co. KG (sh: z for short) based in Flensburg, as well as A.Beig Druckerei und Verlag GmbH & Co. KG in Pinneberg and Zeitungsverlag Schwerin GmbH & Co. KG in Schwerin. Since then, both companies have appeared as the NOZ MEDIEN and mh: n MEDIEN group of companies and employ a total of more than 3,200 people at 82 locations in Lower Saxony, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg.

Since May 2005, the Neue OZ publishing house has been issuing a customer card to its subscribers with the OS-CARD for the city and district of Osnabrück and the EL-CARD for the district of Emsland, which can be used by over 800 partners.
