The Wish Punch is a 52-part animated series from the years 2000 to 2001. The co-production by Saban International Paris and ARD / DEGETO is based on motifs from Michael Ende 's children's book The satanarchaeo- liar wishpunch . The characters and backgrounds were designed by Andreas Strozyk , the music is by Michel Dax , and the director is Philippe Amador .

The black magicians Beelzebub Irrwitzer and Tyrannja Vamperl have signed a contract to impose curses on the city of Mikropolis . Her pets, a young tomcat and an old raven, always work against her: They are spies of the "High Council of Animals".

content

The old-fashioned laboratory magician Beelzebub Irrwitzer and his progressive aunt, the money witch Tyrannja Vamperl, have both signed a contract with the Minister of Extreme Darkness. This treaty grants them great power over people, animals and the rest of nature. In return, they committed themselves to as many crimes as possible. In most of the 52 episodes, the envoy from Hell Maledictus Made appears first in the Villa Nightmare, the place where they live, and demands the imposition of a permanent curse on the city of Mikropolis. After that, Beelzebub and Tyrannja brew a powerful magic potion, the Satan archaeological lie, holy wish punch . The curse created with it (and with two magical parchment halves) becomes permanent after seven hours, if it expires beforehand, everything was in vain. Two animal spies who have sneaked into the wizard and witch use this circumstance: Beelzebub's pet, the young fat conceited cat Maurizio di Mauro and the old rheumatic sullen raven Jakob Krakel , who lives with Tyrannja. They rush to the “High Council of Animals”, where its head, the turtle Aunt Noah, gives them a rhymed “riddle”. With this help they can break the curses. After that, Maledictus Maggot usually appears and punishes the magicians for their failure.

Differences to the template

Only the first episode, The Punch of Puns, is a (free) film adaptation of Michael Ende's novel, while the rest are loosely based on motifs from the material. This first episode, unlike the novel, is divided into a framework and an internal narrative : On New Year's Eve, five years later, the cat and the raven remember the time when they had just met and broke the first wish-punch curse. There are also some other differences: Instead of eavesdropping on the magicians and thus finding out the antidote, Aunt Noah (who does not appear in the book) gives the cat and raven a riddle. The reverse effect of the punch is not an issue here, as in the remaining episodes, the preparation does not present any difficulty and it does not have to be drunk to complete. Only the two parchment halves are united. In the end, Maledictus Made forces the two to work together permanently and does not "seize" them. The characters have also been changed for the series: Beelzebub Irrwitzer and Tyrannja Vamperl are significantly less scary than in the original. Maledictus Made, on the other hand, who appears in the book as an inconspicuous official who is only recognizable as a demon by minor externalities, such as missing eyelids , becomes a monstrous vermin. Maurizio is smarter and Jakob more courageous. Both hide from the wizards that they can speak.

The oracle old turtle, like the other members of the high council, is an embellishment of the scriptwriter, but turtles are often found in other works by Ende: the best-known examples are the clairvoyant Cassiopeia in Momo and the ancient Morla in The Neverending Story .

The number of characters and locations has been greatly expanded.
