action

The short film tells the story of the terminally ill Sarah, told and experienced by a little girl.

Even with cancer, the adult Sarah is concerned with the fear of death. She remembers her youth and the death of her father who, like her, fell ill with cancer and succumbed to the disease:

The ten-year-old girl Sarah lives in a fantasy world with dwarfs , elves and angels and is longing for her birthday. Little does she know that her father Max is seriously ill with cancer. One day he collapses while at work and is admitted to the hospital. Sarah is initially very afraid for her father when she visits him in the hospital. However, he takes away her fear by reminding her of her helpful fantasy friends. His condition then rapidly deteriorates.

The next day the girl visits her father one last time in the hospital, and both are looking forward to her upcoming birthday. He wakes her the next morning. At first she does not understand why he is no longer in a wheelchair and no longer has any signs of the disease. He tells her about the magic rain that will appear with him on her birthday. When Max disappears into the light, Sarah suspects that her papa must have died. Full of anger and incomprehension, she isolates herself in her fantasy world, and even on her birthday she does not speak to anyone.

She remains withdrawn until the moment when a warm rain interrupts the sunny day and her father approaches her. He takes her in his arms, they both laugh happily. When the rain goes again - and with it Max - Sarah realizes that death is nothing terrible, but just another, different kind of life.

When Sarah, now grown up herself and near death due to illness, tells this story to a little girl in the hospital church who wants to know whether she is afraid of dying, she just smiles. On her last breath, the girl transforms into a demonic figure, symbolizing the beast Cancer. It begins to thunder one last time and the magic rain drives away the darkness. Her soul disappears in the rainbow that is now emerging.
