The Little Prince is a on behalf of the DFF produced television film of the DEFA of Konrad Wolf from the year 1966 , after the eponymous fairy tale by Antoine de Saint-Exupery .

action

It was an adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's modern fairy tale, which was first published in the GDR in 1965. The sets and also the costumes stayed close to the illustrations in the book. Since the content and the text of the book were not falsified for the film, the table of contents in The Little Prince is correct. The third star drunkard and the sixth star researcher were not included in the film.

production

The little prince was shot in the DEFA studio for feature films by the group "Heinrich Greif" on ORWO color. The text of the ballad, which was sung by Manfred Krug , comes from Paul Wiens . The set was created by Alfred Hirschmeier and the costume designs came from Dorit Gründel. The rose was spoken by Monika Lennartz .

The shooting took place from November 9, 1965 to January 9, 1966. The costs rose from the initial 600,000 marks of the German central bank to over 900,000 MDN. Due to differences in jurisdiction, the copyrights did not begin to be dealt with until completion. However, you did not get these from the writer's heirs and therefore The Little Prince was only shown very rarely with a special permit. The world premiere took place on Whitsunday, May 21, 1972 without any major notice in the 2nd program of the DFF . Since January 1, 2015, the copyrights to the book, insofar as they concern Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, have expired in Germany and most other countries in the world.

criticism

The Lexicon of International Films writes: “Strictly stylized film staged in scenery, with which Konrad Wolf traces an existentialist classic and finds a close approach supported by excellent actors. Stylistically an exceptional work in the director's oeuvre. ”Hermann Schirrmeister from the daily newspaper of the FDGB Tribüne remarked:“ The color television program The Little Prince offered a fairy tale for adults to friends of the more contemplative genre , a parable of life, seen by the sensitive French writer and pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. ”He also wrote that the main roles were impressively cast, with the imaginative set and the camera they gave the parable a lyrical character. According to Hans-Dieter Tok in the Leipziger Volkszeitung , the film turned out to be an artistic etude, a successful experiment by Konrad Wolf, with which he expanded his possibilities of expression, tried and asserted himself in previously unfamiliar terrain.
