Detlef Kletzin

Detlef Kletzin (born June 6, 1950 in Dassow ) is a former cyclist active in the GDR .

Athletic career

He was multiple GDR champion , for example in the 1976 road race in Görlitz and in 1973, 1974 and 1977 in the team time trial with his club ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt / Oder . He was active for the ASK from 1970 to 1990. He started once at world championships , in 1973 he finished tenth in the team time trial with the GDR team. His greatest international success was a second place in the Tour of Bulgaria in 1973, which was then classified in the 1st UCI category for amateur tours .

He took part in the 1976 selection race in Falkenberg, which was advertised as an Olympic qualification. There was also Wolfgang Lötzsch , who at the time was an enemy of the state under observation by the state security in the GDR and had been excluded from the performance club area by the DRSV. Lötzsch won the race confidently. The officials forbade the placed drivers to Lötzsch to go to the podium for the award ceremony. Detlef Kletzin, who was among those placed, was the only one who had the courage and courage to congratulate the outlawed winner with a handshake. That same evening, Kletzin was expelled from the national team for his fair gesture.

Professional

After finishing his career, Kletzin worked as a trainer in Frankfurt an der Oder until 1993, after which he was a member of the Bundeswehr.
