The German lake GmbH is a food manufacturer based in Bremerhaven . The main business purpose is the processing and refining of fresh edible fish and seafood as well as their distribution to the catering and retail trade.

Shareholder relationships

Until his death in February 2018, the managing director Egbert Miebach and the general manager Peter Dill, who had been appointed in 2014, were shareholders. In 2018, Deutsche See was taken over by the Dutch fishing company Parlevliet & Van der Plas .

history

The company was founded in 1939. Until 1998, Deutsche See was a subsidiary of Nordsee GmbH . In addition to Peter Dill and Egbert Miebach, Andreas Jacobs (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jacobs Holding and its subsidiary Barry Callebaut , a son of Klaus J. Jacobs ) was involved in the buyout as the main shareholder. In 2003, Deutsche See bought the Hamburg-Jenfeld- based company BEECK Feinkost (founded in 1919), which had 230 employees. In 2012, Deutsche See lost the order to supply the Nordsee high-speed restaurant chain in the areas of frozen and non-food products to HAVI Logistics and has since then only supplied fresh fish and seafood to the Nordsee sales outlets.

The company employs around 1,800 people and has over 20 branches nationwide. It is the market leader for fish and seafood in Germany and describes itself as a fish manufactory . The production site is in Bremerhaven, where the company processes fish and seafood in three factories. The trading and manufacturing company maintains around 35,000 customer relationships. The customer base includes restaurants of all kinds and practically all major retail chains in Germany. Since 2013, the products have also been sold via an online shop.

Early 2017 is suing the German lake first major customer, due to the exhaust scandal that Volkswagen AG for damages in the amount of 11.9 million euros. The company saw itself deceived and damaged by the VW group. The lawsuit was dismissed in the first instance by the Braunschweig Regional Court on October 27, 2017. Deutsche See initially appealed against this judgment, but withdrew it in January 2018.

The company obtains its raw materials from a global network of suppliers. The company has more than 20 branches and a fleet of around 300 trucks for delivery to over 35,000 customers. The head office is located directly at the fishing port in Bremerhaven.

Awards

In 2010, Deutsche See received the German Sustainability Award as the “Most Sustainable Company” in Germany for its long-term commitment to maintaining fish stocks .

In 2015, the company was named Climate Protection Company of the Year by Environment Senator Joachim Lohse for reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 20 percent .

The German Design Award was awarded the German lake in 2016 in the category "Excellent Communications Design - corporate identity" for the newly designed website of the company.
