Softball Bundesliga 2007

As part of the German softball championship 2007 , 8 softball teams each in the softball Bundesliga North and South played the list of German softball champions in women's fastpitch softball. The defending champion Mannheim Tornados was able to defend his title in front of the Brauweiler Raging Abbots at the final tournament played on September 22nd and 23rd, 2007 in Ratingen .

Regular season

In the regular season, all teams of the corresponding group North or South faced each other both at home and away. Since two games were played as so-called double headers on the respective match days , each team played a total of four times against each other team, whereby each team played 28 season games in the regular season. In the second half of the season, the four best-placed teams in each group played in the play-offs for entry into the final tournament for the German championship, the four worse-placed teams in the play-downs for non-relegation.

1. Bundesliga North

The Hamburg Knights were able to win the championship of the 1st Bundesliga North with 22: 6 victories, to which in particular the good home record with 13: 1 wins with only one defeat against runner-up Raging Abbots Brauweiler contributed. In addition, the Neunkirchen Nightmares were able to qualify as promoted players and the Wesseling Vermins for the play-offs.
Behind them, the Hilden Wains , the Strausberg Pandoras and the Cologne Cardinals and bottom of the table Holm Westend 69'ers landed in places 5 to 8, which meant participation in the play-downs.

1st Bundesliga South

The Mannheim Tornados were able to end the regular season of the 1st Bundesliga South without defeat and thus win the South Championship. The Haar Disciples and the Freising Grizzlies were able to play each other with 19: 9 wins, tied on places 2 and 3 . They were followed by the Darmstadt Rockets , who were able to secure last place in the play-offs despite a negative victory record. The lower half of the table was led by the Herrenberg Wanderers , who only lacked a win for the play-off participation. The field of participants in the Bundesliga South was completed by the Karlsruhe Cougars , the Deggendorf Dragons and the Dreieich Vultures .

Playdowns

Play-Downs North

In the play-downs of the Bundesliga North, each team played again against each of the other teams, but only in the first round; Hilden and Strausberg had two home rights due to their better placements in the regular season, Cologne and Holm accordingly once. At the end of the round, the Hilden Wains were able to secure non-relegation due to their lead from the regular season and the Cologne Cardinals due to the balance of 5: 1 wins in the play-downs, the Strausberg Pandoras and the Holm Westend 69'ers had sporty must start the path in the relegation. However, both teams waived a relegation participation and the Hilden Wains also waived a report in the Softball Bundesliga 2008, so that a relegation was waived and the Kiel Seahawks rose without a game.

Play-Downs South

The play-downs of the Bundesliga Süd were played from August 25 to September 8, 2007 and did not change anything in the table situation as it emerged after the regular season, so that the Herrenberg Wanderers and the Karlsruhe Cougars remained in the 1 .Bundesliga softball could celebrate, while the teams from Deggendorf and Dreieich had to take part in the relegation. Dreieich did not appear for the relegation and Deggendorf did not register a team for the Bundesliga 2008 despite athletic qualification, so that only the Augsburg Dirty Slugs team rose.

Play-offs

In the play-offs played on September 1 and 8, 2007, three teams from the Bundesliga North - Hamburg, Brauweiler and Neunkirchen - prevailed against the competition from the south, only the Mannheim Tornados were able to defeat the Wesseling Vermins and were the only team drive from southern Germany to the final tournament. What was remarkable about the play-off games was that each of the teams from the Bundesliga North prevailed in the best-of-five matches with a 3-0 sweep , while Mannheim won the 5-7 in the first game of the series first defeat in national competitions since June 10, 2006.

Final tournament

The final round of the German Softball Championship 2007 was hosted on September 22nd and 23rd, 2007 by the Ratingen Goose Necks at New Hermann's Field .

Group stage

In the group stage played on the first day of the tournament, each team played once against each competitor. The Neunkirchen Nightmares could not win a game, lost against the Mannheim Tornados and the Brauweiler Raging Abbots only with one run difference. The Neunkircher thus took 4th place in the final bill.
After the group stage, the other participating teams had won two games and lost one, so that there was a three-way tie that the Brauweiler Raging Abbots won. They were the first to take part in the final, whereas the teams placed second and third from Mannheim and Hamburg only had to play the second finalist in the semifinals the next day.

Finals

The finals played on Sundays began with the semifinals between the Mannheim Tornados and the Hamburg Knights, in which the Mannheim women were able to repeat their success from the previous day and move into the final with a 2-0 victory. This defeat made the Hamburg Knights third in the 2007 German Softball Championship.

In the final, despite the intense semi-final encounter on the same morning, the Mannheimers beat the rested Brauweiler women 4-1. Brauweiler took the lead 1-0 in the fourth inning, but Mannheim was able to equalize immediately and take the lead; a total of five errors on the part of the Raging Abbots were too many. Thus the Mannheim Tornados could claim the title of German Softball Champion 2007 for themselves.

The individual awards of the final tournament were also divided among the finalists. Sonja Garnett's performance as best pitcher is remarkable , not allowing a single run and only four hits over the entire tournament.
