Diamantino Manuel Fernandes Miranda (born May 3, 1959 in Moita ) is a former Portuguese football player and current coach. As a player, he was better known by his first name Diamantino .

Player career

At the beginning of his career, Diamantino played for Vitória Setúbal , Benfica Lisbon and Amora FC . Due to his young age, he was not a regular at these stations, but was able to celebrate his first national successes with Benfica. In 1981 Diamantino moved to Boavista Porto , where he was first used as a regular player. After just one season he returned to Benfica. In the following 8 years of his career he developed into a key player and key player at the traditional Portuguese club and contributed significantly to many titles. Until 1990 he and his team won the championship four times, the cup four times and the Supercup twice. In addition, he was in the final of the European Cup in 1988 and 1990 . In the first attempt, his team failed 5-6 on penalties at PSV Eindhoven and in the second final the club lost 1-0 to AC Milan . After losing the 1990 European Cup final, Diamantino moved to Vitória Setúbal, for whom he had already played at the beginning of his career. With the club he was relegated after one season, but made it back to the first division in his last season as a professional footballer.

National team

Between 1981 and 1986 Diamantino completed a total of 22 international matches for the Portuguese national soccer team and scored 5 goals. He was part of the squad for the 1984 European Football Championship and the 1986 World Cup .

Coaching career

With Vitória Setúbal Diamantino Miranda first trained his last professional club, with which he had made it to the top division. For the 1995/96 season he was obliged by SC Campomaiorense , who were represented in the SuperLiga for the first time in their club history this season , but could not hold the class. After a short interlude at Desportivo de Beja, Diamantino returned to Campomaiorense and managed to get promoted with the team. Due to the bad start to the season, he was dismissed a short time later and took over the coaching position at Gil Vicente FC , who had been relegated to the second division the previous season. From 1998 to 2000 and from 2003 to 2005 Diamantino coached the second division club FC Felgueiras . After the club was revoked at the end of the 2004/05 season , he coached Portimonense SC and Varzim SC . From January to May 2008 he was the coach of SC Olhanense . Since May 27, 2008 he has been the assistant coach of Quique Sánchez Flores at the 31-time Portuguese champions Benfica Lisbon . In the summer of 2009, the head coach's contract was terminated, but Miranda stayed with the club as an assistant coach.
