In the semi-finals, the Portuguese faced France . France took a 1-0 lead through Jean-François Domergue in the 24th minute. Rui Jordão equalized in the 74th minute. No further goal was scored in regular time, so the teams had to go into extra time. After eight minutes in extra time, Rui Jordão scored a goal and Portugal took a 2-1 lead. One dreamed of the final, but six minutes before the end the disillusionment came. Domergue scored his second goal that evening and equalized. One minute before the end and when everyone was already thinking about the penalty shoot-out, the great personality of this European Championship Michel Platini was able to score the winning goal to make it 3-2. Portugal was eliminated and France was in the final.
