Yugoslavia had a terrible European championship. In the first group game against Belgium there was already a 2-0 defeat. The game was decided after half time. In the second group game, it was a huge debacle. Yugoslavia lost to Denmark 5-0. With a total score of 0: 7 and zero points, the Yugoslavs went into the final group game against hosts France. Although Sestic shot the Yugoslavs in the front in the 32nd minute, they couldn't take the win home with them. Michel Platini scored a flawless hat trick in the second half and decided the game. In the 84th minute, D.Stojkovic could only improve the result for Yugoslavia with a penalty.
