Carlos Manuel Correia dos Santos (born January 15, 1958 in Moita ) is a former Portuguese football player and football coach.

Career

Carlos Manuel started his career at GD Fabril before joining FC Barreirense in 1978 . In 1979 he joined his first major club at Benfica Lisbon . During his time in Lisbon he was able to win the Portuguese championship title four times, the Portuguese Cup six times and the Portuguese Supercup once . During his time at Benfica, he was also called up for the 1984 European Football Championship in France and the 1986 World Cup in Mexico . At the EM he was used three times and at the World Cup he was also used three times and even scored a goal.

In 1987 he went to Switzerland for a year for FC Sion , which he left for Sporting Lisbon .

Carlos Manuel was under contract with Sporting for two years, after which he went to Boavista Porto , where he also played for two years. There he was able to win the Portuguese Cup and the Portuguese Supercup again.

Then the midfielder let his career at GD Estoril end.

After the playing career

After his playing career, Carlos Manuel first took up the post as player-coach at GD Estoril . He then coached SC Salgueiros and briefly took over Sporting Lisbon in 1998 . He then coached Sporting Braga , SC Campomaiorense , CD Santa Clara , again Salgueiros, CD Olivais e Moscavide and from 2007 to 2009 he was head coach of Atlético Clube de Portugal . In early June 2012 he was named as the national coach of Guinea-Bissau.
