Big Lips is a song by German singer Katja Krasavice from 2018. The musician's second single was written by Stard Ova and Robin Wick and produced by the former.
Music and lyrics
Thick Lips is a dance pop song dominated by pounding kick drums and electronic bass . Some synthesizers play the catchy melody of the latter at certain points. Katja Krasavice can mainly be heard rapping on the song , in the chorus she repeats fragments of the sentence "I have thick lips and they blow" rhythmically. The last word is partly robotically distorted by means of a vocoder . In the pre-chorus, a male voice, which was also transposed even lower, speaks the said line. The lyrics of the song are strongly sexually influenced, with both euphemismsas well as explicit formulations are used. The first stanza as well as the refrain is primarily about fellatio , or how the size of her lips benefits the interpreter in that sexual practice . However, she also sprinkles her skills in dog position . In the second verse, the musician focuses on her success and the money that it brought in, which she spends on plastic surgery and an Audi R8 . However, ambiguous statements cannot be avoided here either.

The music video for Thick Lips , directed by Mikis Fontagnier , stands out in particular because of its bright colors . Rich turquoise , pink and orange tones dominate the scenery; sometimes during the same shot, the singer's background, lipstick and clothes switch back and forth between these colors. Katja Krasavice is dressed freely and sits in several scenes on a golden throne on which she is sometimes surrounded by two muscular, topless men and sometimes by two leashed dogs of the Doberman breed . In further sequences she is on a deck chair or in or in front of a car . Other women also appear in the clip and can be seen dancing or eating lollipops . The sweets clearly represent a phallic symbol .
criticism
Thick lips received negative reviews. The slippery text in particular was perceived as trashy and clumsy; it would clearly disturb the fun of listening. The performance of the musician herself was perceived as inadequate, which brought the weaknesses of the song to the fore. Critics noted that the song was inferior to their debut single Doggy , which, despite a similar premise, was musically more entertaining, as the production of the follow-up track sounded too monotonous. All in all, the piece was seen as a song that would impress young listeners, but offer no artistic added value and rely too much on clichés .

Big lips was a great commercial success in German-speaking countries. The song managed to reach the top of the charts in Austria and to position itself at number 4 in Germany . In Switzerland , sales and streams were enough for number 12 on the hit parade.
