The Dießbach reservoir is located in the area of the village of Pürzlbach and the cadastral municipality of Oberweißbach in the east of the municipality of Weißbach bei Lofer in the State of Salzburg in Austria , as well as in the Fallck district of the Saalforste , including District 19 Dießbach. With a water surface of 26 hectares, the reservoir is the only larger standing water within the Saalforste. The area belongs to the Kalkhochalpen nature reserve in the Berchtesgaden Alps .

The Dießbach , which rises south of the Großer Palfelhorn and west of the Großer Hundstod, flows around the Seehorn on the east side over the Hochwies and was dammed from 1961 in the area of the Dießbachalm, south of the Seehorn. The Alm was mentioned in a document as early as 1386 and, together with the Kaser, was completely flooded by the reservoir. The stone rubble dam has a maximum height of 36 meters and a usable volume of 4.92 million m³, the top of the structure is 1417  m above sea level. A. The Dießbach power plant ( annual storage power plant ) went into operation in 1964, and the final expansion was achieved in 1967, when the Weißbach and Kallbrunnbach were also fed into the Dießbach reservoir.

The penstock is one of the steepest in Europe and drains the reservoir to the south over the shock wall towards the Saalach .

In 2011 the dam seal was completely renewed.

The Dießbach reservoir is on the normal route to the Ingolstadt house . To the west of the lake is the Kallbrunnalm , the largest alpine settlement in the Bavarian-Austrian border area.
