action

The MacGregor family of Scottish descent own a farm not far from the Mexican border. When one day only the elderly members of the family are present, the property is haunted by horse thieves, who are shot to retreat with losses by the seven sons who were lured by an exchange of fire. A little later the sons go to a horse market to sell 200 animals that they have bred. The market and the host city turns out to be ruled by a crook who is openly patronized by the sheriff and who has hired a group of compliant people under the leadership of Santillana - who also carried out the raid on the ranch. The hotheads of the MacGregor family pay for their immediate response to this discovery with imprisonment; but they can escape and find shelter on Miss Rosita's farm.

There they hatch a plan: The eldest brother, Gregor MacGregor, infiltrates Santillana's gang. This move allows them to gather evidence of the bandits' shoddy goings-on - while also getting wind of a plan to steal wages for the judge's care. Within a short time, however, Santillana distrusts Gregor, who is subjected to cruel torture, which he only survives through the intervention of his brothers. All family members ride in to the sound of bagpipes, defeat Santillana and his gang, and then return to their peaceful farm life.

criticism

The lexicon of the international film portrays the plot as "(s) perturbing Euro western with numerous action elements" quite neutrally ; Christian Keßler saw an “excellent comedy western” who avoids sagging in simple slapstick and also works as an exciting action western with a good script.

Remarks

I Cantori Moderni interpret the film song March of the MacGregors .

English pseudonyms everywhere. In Italy the film grossed 376 million lire .
