Fleckenbühl farm in Cölbe

the Fleckenbühler e. V. is a community and self-help organization of people with addiction problems who want to live without drugs, alcohol, tobacco and the use of violence. The organizational form is a non-profit association . It bears the donation seal of the German Central Institute for Social Issues .

More than 200 addicted men, women and their children from all over Germany regularly live and work together at three locations in Hesse : On the Fleckenbühl farm in the Cölber district of Schönstadt near Marburg , in Frankfurt am Main and in the youth welfare service Haus Leimbach in the Willingshausen community .

Working method

Conception and drug help immediately

The Fleckenbühler work without employed specialist staff, there are no therapists , psychologists or social workers . As a recognized, non - profit self - help community, organization and administration are carried out entirely by the members themselves.

People who have been living in the community for a long time help the newcomers to turn away from their addiction, to gain stability, social and professional competence and thus to independence, on the basis of their own experience and role model function. This self-help approach is based on the assumption that those affected are independently capable of acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge to lead a satisfied life, i.e. that addiction problems are more likely to be perceived as learning or competence deficits or mismatches. That is why the active voluntary participation of those affected in solving their problems is a prerequisite for staying in this community.

Admission criteria

Admission to the community can take place immediately and at any time after a personal interview (exceptions for convicts with addiction to BtM , see below). Registration or a promise of costs are not required, there is no waiting list. The length of stay is basically unlimited - you can stay as long as you think is right. Every year around 600 people from all over Germany come to the Fleckenbühlern. Addicted parents can bring their children with them. In our own kindergarten near Hof Fleckenbühl the children are looked after all day. It is the only state-approved day-care center in Germany that is operated by an addiction support facility.

There are three binding rules for all residents:

  1. No drugs, alcohol or other addictive substances
  2. No violence, no threat of violence
  3. No tobacco, everyone is non-smoker

A violation of one of these basic rules means exclusion from the community. It is possible to come back after 24 hours. A break in contact must be observed in the first six months so that the newcomers can settle in their new living environment and relapses can be prevented. After three months, you can initially contact relatives in writing. Relatives can inquire at any time about the condition and receive information if the person concerned agrees.

Fleckenbühl is recognized as a drug therapy facility under the Narcotics Act (§§ 35/36). Instead of serving a prison sentence, there is the possibility to go to the Fleckenbühlern and learn a sober life. In the case of prisoners, the principle of immediate aid is deviated from due to the legal framework. In these cases, a written application must be submitted through the drug counseling service. Furthermore, the prison's social service has to issue a statement in favor of staying with the Fleckenbühlers.

Life school

In the initial phase, the newcomers undergo two months of basic training. During this time they work in housekeeping, get to know Fleckenbühl's organization, complete internships in work areas and practice a daily structure. Then they switch to one of the special-purpose businesses (agricultural Demeter business with bakery, butcher, buffet service, shops and moving companies) or work areas in the house (laundry, kitchen, building services, administration).

In almost all companies and fields of work, qualifications (including those with a HWK or IHK degree, etc.) and advanced training courses can be obtained that will later enable them to find employment outside of the community.

In addition to training and qualification, the group discussion is part of addiction self-help in order to lead to a permanently abstinent life.

financing

Fleckenbühl is financed to around 50% from the income of the special-purpose operations, also through donations (donations in kind and money) and monetary conditions (judgments), through ALG II and donations from the State of Hesse, the Aktion Mensch , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, etc. a.

history

The founders of Fleckenbühl were founding members and long-term members of Synanon . Fleckenbühl stands in the tradition of self-help, starting with Alcoholics Anonymous , Synanon USA and the Therapeutic Communities, as described in the book of the same name by Lewis Yablonsky .

Hof Fleckenbühl was taken over by the self-help Synanon in Berlin in 1984, in 1995 Hof Fleckenbühl separated from Synanon to become self-employed as Suchthilfe Fleckenbühl eV , since 2009 Fleckenbühl has been operating under the name of Fleckenbühler .

In Synanon’s own presentation, the replacement of Hof Fleckenbühl in 1995 is described with the following words: “As Suchthilfe Fleckenbühl e. V. continues to work the estate according to Synanon rules. With the separation in the sense of cell division, a new chapter begins in Synanon's more than 20-year history. The Synanon mother community lets one of its grown-up children move into independence and personal responsibility, trusting that the adult child will continue on its way according to the Synanon principles. "

Fleckenbühl farm

The Fleckenbühl farm near Cölbe is a former estate of the city of Kassel. The houses were expanded and expanded so that 140 adults and 20 children lived here in 2000. In 2001 the Fleckenbühlers set up a kindergarten in the neighboring town of Ginseldorf, and in 2005 the local kindergarten was integrated. The farm belonging to the Demeter Association cultivates over 250 hectares according to biodynamic principles. The products are processed in our own bakery, butcher's and cheese dairy and marketed ourselves. The farm is a member of the network of demonstration farms for organic farming .

House Frankfurt

The house in Frankfurt was acquired and occupied in 2003 with the support of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the Willi-Robert-Pitzer-Foundation, the Software-AG-Foundation, the Aktion Mensch and the Hessian state government. It is located in the Niederrad district .

Youth Welfare House Leimbach

The youth welfare house Leimbach in the Hessian Schwalm-Eder district was opened in 2004 - a nationwide unique concept of self-help and education, specially geared to the needs of male youth. The indication for admission ranges from anti-sociality and deviance to addiction and risk of addiction. In addition, Fleckenbühler Jugendhilfe carries out pre-trial detention shortening and pre-trial detention avoidance measures according to the Youth Courts Act (JGG).

criticism

Frequently cited criticism refers to the sect-like aspect of Hof Fleckenbühl and the lack of professional therapists. This and other criticism, such as the handling of private property, is explicitly made in the specialist literature and by former residents of Synanon. At the same time, however, reference is made to Synanon's astonishingly high success rate and that the immediate, unbureaucratic help is an important addition to the otherwise high-threshold inpatient support area.
