action

Lada is about to graduate from school. She lives with her father Echo Sokerow, her brother Mirtscho and his wife Sora and her brother Weselin and his wife Nella in a house. Lada's mother died early and so the father, who owns a specialist bookshop, raised the girl on his own. Echo has big plans with his children: Mirtscho is a writer and will soon be publishing a new book. Weselin works as a doctor and the father wants to find him the position of assistant to the professor through his connections, since the professor is a former schoolmate. Weselin, however, made a mistake in his last operation and now fears the consequences. Lada, on the other hand, should make a good match according to the father's will. He plans to marry her off to Mirtscho's friend Antow Monka, even if Lada doesn't know anything about it. One day after school she is checked by a stranger. He introduces himself to her as Boris and admits that he has loved her for a long time and that he has often waited in front of school, but never dared to speak to her. Both go through town together, even if Lada knows that she has to be home for dinner. Her father has planned a big dinner where he wants to let his relationships play out again. Among other things, he invited Antow and the professor.

Lada and Boris go to a tobacco office, where Boris Lada introduces his best friend, the warehouse manager, to Ketinow. Shortly afterwards, Lada and Boris hear a baby crying in a house in the office. They find a girl who, according to the enclosed letter, was born out of wedlock and abandoned for fear of family shame. Lada decides to take the baby home with her. She knows that Weselin and Nella always wanted a child. Lada comes home much too late and only sees Antow briefly before he leaves. The child is looked after by Nella, who immediately imagines a future together with the girl. A few days later, however, Lada visits Boris and informs him that the girl has been taken to a children's home because Echo does not want any strange children in the house. Lada and Boris buy toys for the child and bring them to the home in the evening, but they do not know that the girl is seriously ill due to the long time in the cold. The doctor asks her to think of a name for the girl by the next day. Lada and Boris go to Lada's house, but the light is still on in the father's room. Lada wants to wait until her father has gone to bed. She and Boris retreat to an old garage and they both look for a name for the girl in a car parked there. After a few suggestions, they kiss and Lada is as surprised as it is happy. Later she dances euphorically in her room, but is interrupted by her brother Weselin. She confesses to him that she fell in love with Boris. Weselin in turn wants to tell her about the burden he has taken on with the botched operation, but the father appears. Echo confronts Lada because she was seen with a strange man. She tells him about her love for Boris and the father suggests that it will be one of the men who only play with women. Lada is now being monitored by Mirtscho on the instructions of the father. The next day she goes to Lamartinestrasse, where communications technician Boris works underground on a line. There is an explosion in which Boris is injured in both hands. Lada takes good care of him and now plans to come to him every afternoon and take care of the house.

Weselin performs a second operation on the patient in the presence of the professor and can thus make up for the mistake of the first operation. Only he and the professor know about the serious mistake Weselin made during the first operation. Weselin is sure that Echo's relationships will still give him the assistant post, but he wants to forego the protection of his father. He confesses to his wife that he would rather become a country doctor as planned. Boris in turn goes to Lada at home, but Echo sends him away because Lada is not there. However, she is in the house and Boris can hear her. Lada is devastated by her father's behavior. Mirtscho explains to her that it is only for her best: Boris had a girlfriend Lada's age for three years, but left her shortly before the planned wedding for Lada. Lada believes her brother and keeps her distance from Boris from now on. He's waiting for her in front of school after she passes her final exam. Now she could decide without the intervention of the father. She turns away from him, but follows him when he tells her that the little girl is doing badly. He donates blood for the baby and Lada, completely confused, hurries away. She goes on vacation to Varna with Antow, her brother Mirtscho and his wife Sora . Echo wants Mirtscho to couple Antow and Lada during the vacation days and is already preparing their rooms for their return. On the advice of his friend Ketinov, Boris also goes to Varna to fight for Lada. It turns out that Antow still sees a child in Lada and is much more interested in Sora. Lada, in turn, reports to Boris everything that Martscho said about him, and Boris reveals the lies. The children are gradually arriving at Echo's house again. Weselin and Nella have taken the little one out of the home and want to adopt her. They don't care about Echo's opinion, because they don't want to live in his house any more. Mirtscho returns from Varna drunk and prematurely. He has lost his wife to Antow and collapses. Lada appears and confronts Mirtscho for his lies, but accuses Echo, who insisted on the lies about Boris. Mirtscho and Lada leave their father's house, who is left alone. Lada goes to Boris and will stay with him. The speaker wishes the young people happiness and success in their new life.
