The Lie of Life is a German TV film by Peter Sämann from 2009.
action
Sophie Brückner, a sculptor , has a happy marriage with her husband Gabriel. Their daughter Anne also feels that she is in good hands with her family, although her father Gabriel is often absent due to his work as a hotel manager on Mallorca. When Sophie received the news that her husband had had a fatal accident in a traffic accident on Mallorca , she was deeply affected. Anne, who had a very special relationship with her father, finds it particularly difficult to cope with the sudden loss.
Sophie travels to Mallorca to identify her husband's body . When she learns from the police that her husband Gabriel was not alone in the car, but that there was a woman with him who also died, she cannot establish a connection. Sophie meets Michael Gernold, the dead man's husband, who also can't figure out why his wife was sitting in Gabriel's car. Both Sophie and Michael Gernold want to know more and, during their research, come across a mysterious key that is in both things. Although both are afraid of what they might uncover, they continue to research and uncover a life lie of their partners. Maren Gernold and Gabriel Brückner had a relationship for more than three years and the respective key belongs to a house that they lived together. This realization comes as a shock to the bereaved spouse . Badly hit by the loss of their respective spouse, they now also have to face the fact that their supposedly so happy marriages were tainted with a lie from the respective partner. Deeply disappointed and hurt, desperate, confused and also full of sadness, there is an almost erotic tendency between the two.
Sophie, however, decides to return home and only tells her mother about Gabriel's infidelity; she does not want to burden her already deeply sad daughter. However, Sophie has a hard time forgetting Michael, and so does Michael. The common disappointment and the suffering they experienced brought them closer together than they wanted to admit. Michael travels to Sophie and the re-established contact is good for both of them. They are getting closer and closer.
Anne, with whom Sophie has had such difficulties since her father's death, is appalled that the mother turns to another man and "becomes unfaithful" to the father. Michael eventually tells her the truth about her father and his wife. A world collapses for Sophie, confused and unsettled as she is, she sits on her moped and speeds away, which leads to another catastrophe. In the end, however, Sophie and Michael find each other and Anne, too, allows her mother her new happiness.
