occupation

The Italian-French feature film The Journey of Capitan Fracassa by the director Ettore Scola from 1990 is a film adaptation of the novel Captain Fracasse by Théophile Gautier.

action

The impoverished, shy young Baron de Sigognac joins a traveling company of Commedia dell'arte actors. There he finds his true destiny in the role of Capitan Fracassa and as an author for this troupe.

criticism

"The Journey of Capitan Fracassa" is a journey to the cradle of art. Scola uses the dealings and intrigues of the adventure only as a pretext for a story about the relationship between art and reality, between truth and play.
