The Naked Mile (1967) is an American film directed by Alexander Mackendrick and starring Tony Curtis , Claudia Cardinale and Sharon Tate .

The charming Carlo Cofield is out and about in Southern California. To be able to enjoy the view of the sea, he parks his car for a moment on the side of the road. Carlo runs into the lively Italian hobby painter Laura when she collides with her car with his parked car. Carlos Auto then went into business for himself and fell over a slope with all his important papers. In order to calm her guilty conscience, Laura takes Carlo in with her. He discovers that Laura is having a relationship with Rod Prescott, the executive director of a swimming pool company. Carlo, who now has to start a new life, blackmailed Rod into telling his wife everything if he wouldn't give him a job. Carlo falls in love with the beautiful Malibu, who is already in a relationship with the muscle pack Harry. Carlo leads Harry to part ways with Malibu through an intrigue with a fortune teller. Malibu then moves in with Carlo, who has since bought a house on a slope. During a hurricane , Rod, his wife, Laura, Malibu and Harry gradually arrive at Carlo's. The house is in danger of falling down the slope due to a landslide triggered by the hurricane. While everyone is waiting for the rescue workers, Harry forgives Carlo and proposes to Malibu, which she accepts. Rod and his wife get closer again. And Carlo proposes to Laura, which she also accepts. The film ends with the house sliding down, but all survive.

By the time Don't Make Waves hit theaters in 1967, the California wave in music and film was already fading, as was Tony Curtis' status as a sex symbol. The criticism of the film was mixed. In American Prince , Curtis' autobiography, Tony Curtis wrote that the plot was excruciatingly ridiculous, but that he received a percentage of the proceeds and therefore accepted the role. The film grossed 1.25 million dollars a. Sharon Tate wrote to her husband Roman Polanski that the atmosphere on the set was uncomfortable, especially after a stuntman died in a parachute stunt.
