Diego Padrón

Diego Rafael Padrón Sánchez (born May 17, 1939 in Montalbán , Venezuela ) is a Venezuelan clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cumaná .

Life

Diego Padrón was ordained a priest on August 4, 1963 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Caracas, Santiago de Venezuela and titular bishop of Gisipa on April 4, 1990 . The Archbishop of Caracas, Santiago de Venezuela , José Alí Cardinal Lebrún Moratinos , donated him episcopal ordination on May 27, 1990 ; Co- consecrators were Domingo Roa Pérez , Archbishop of Maracaibo , and Miguel Antonio Salas Salas CIM , Archbishop of Mérida .

On May 7, 1994 he was appointed Bishop of Maturín and on July 23 of the same year he was appointed to the office. On March 27, 2002 he was appointed Archbishop of Cumaná .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on May 24, 2018. Diego Padrón is still President of the Sociedad de Catequetas Latinoamericanos (SCALA), the association of Latin American religious educators.
