The service building of the division command in Flensburg - Jürgensby was built in the 19th century. The building with the address Hafendamm 32, which is now used for civilian purposes, is the only one of the buildings originally used by the military from the imperial era in the city that is located close to the city center and on the Flensburg inner harbor . It is one of the city's cultural monuments .

location

The building was built on the east side of the city below the slope of the so-called captain's quarter. During the imperial period there were parts of a Prussian division in the Fördestadt . The associated fusilier regiment "Queen" (Schleswig-Holstein) No. 86 was housed in the Duburg barracks built in 1876/77 and in the Junkerhohlweg barracks built in 1893–1897 . (In 1914 the said regiment was under the control of the 18th Division .) Since the beginning of the 20th century, a time when the city was growing rapidly (see population development of Flensburg ), more military buildings for the Imperial Navy were built in the suburb of Mürwik . In contrast to the military facilities in Mürwik and the Duburg barracks with the Junkerhohlweg barracks, the office building of the divisional command was very central in the city. Not far away were, among other things, the railway systems with the Flensburg train station and the Flensburg district train station as well as the rails of the Flensburg port railway . For the soldiers of the torpedo station and the Mürwik naval school , the transport boats "Grauer Esel" and the steamer "Wiking" were used at times to reach the city center, because the road conditions to Mürwik were initially very poor. The main road there was only laid out until 1912. The soldiers from the Duburg barracks area obviously had it easier to reach the city center due to the existing well-developed roads and a shorter route.

background

The building with the address Hafendamm 32 was apparently built in the 19th century as a two-storey plastered building in a country house style , divided up in different ways . In 1906/1907 the building was apparently renovated. In this context, the Arendt building council from the Rensburg military building authority has been handed down. Since then, at the latest, the building has served as a service residence for the division command. In front of the building, facing the Hafendamm street, a park-like front garden was apparently laid out even then. In addition, the stable building Hafendamm 31 a ( Lage ) belonging to the complex was built. The L-shaped stable building has a carriage house . The upper floor of the building in question is characterized by half-timbering . The former stable area is still recognizable today by a fully plastic horse's head.

The two buildings are used civilly today. Social institutions have recently been set up there, such as Fair Play GmbH, the Helmuth Scharnowski children's and youth home and Caritas .
